I'm super excited - I just deployed the forums feature in catodon.rocks and it seems to work, I made my first post in a Lemmy community!
I definitely have a lot of work to do, but you can -cautiously!- test the feature on our server, it is live. If something serious shows up, I will revert it and try again tomorrow. But this feels awesome - the first (proper) threadiverse post from a Misskey/Sharkey fork! Let's go 🥳

Working on threadiverse integration has been very interesting, with the design choices that have to be made to make this work properly - and it might affect the microblogging side, too: I'm thinking of adding New/Hot/Active sortings to regular timelines. The Active one could even be close to what I described as "forum view" in 2022, in one of my first recommendations on Calckey (which never got implemented)!
This is a lovely procedure, it's the most creative part and I'm enjoying it very much =)

Made some more minor changes in the RSS feeds after @sproid@catodon.rocks 's feedback, you can now see a little more information in mobile view, and the most significant change: since Bluesky has RSS for each public account, you can now follow anyone you want from Catodon, even if they haven't enabled Bridgy Fed: Just paste their profile url in the Add RSS field, optionally enable "Add to Home", and you can have their posts appearing in your Home timeline, with their profile picture and all. You're not able to interact with them, but they should have enabled Bridgy Fed for that =)

And for my next trick: Catodon forums.
Yep. I'm bringing the threadiverse to the misskeyverse.

The release candidate for our second stable release is out!

One last change before the RC for 26.4.0: Catodon now handles ActivityPub Articles and Pages properly, rendering html and all, instead of turning them all into Notes and showing them as a CW with the summary as comment, which tbf was pretty ugly. I will gradually make more adjustments so that we are better aligned with ActivityPub.

Now that Catodon is finally rolling, I often think of the time when Firefish exploded, in 2023. There were waves of Twitter "refugees" coming for a while and, while most didn't stay, there was an enthusiasm that we're building something that will attract and welcome more and more people. Somewhere along the way, I feel that this vibe has died. And, on one hand, I know we're building something that has the foundations to be alive in the long run, and that's better than being a short term trend... on the other hand I sometimes miss that enthusiasm and optimism for fedi. Can we have some more of that, please?

At first I removed the features I didn't want only from the UI, as it was safer, but now I feel more comfortable with my tools and I did a deep removal of Chat, Reversi, Bubble Game and Play. The rest of the features that I have removed, like Channels, are not worth the hassle and would give no real benefits. Current develop branch has the removals, and catodon.rocks is already deployed using the latest develop.
Anyone upgrading from previous versions, remember to do pnpm install before building, or to use --no-cache for docker: docker compose build --no-cache

Latest from the Catodon lab: A new way to view Followers/Following, with many sorting options (for other users the options are alphabetical by name and username only, for your profile you can also sort based on when the connection was made and when each user was last active - good for cleaning up any abandoned accounts for example). And now you can also bookmark RSS posts and even users! If for any reason you need to go back to a user's profile - just bookmark it for easy access.
Both features will be in the upcoming 26.4.0 release, coming soon! I decided to do two (at least!) releases in April, one to introduce the RSS feeds timeline and the Direct messages page, and another one a little later with another major new feature that is already in the works.

Why did Lemmy not call a community a subfedi
Today it was mostly optimizations for the RSS feature, it should be easier on resources now, improved some ux bits here and there. The most visible change is that I changed the look of the RSS posts, especially for the Home timeline - they still look like pretty much like posts, but they are more compact, and if there are consecutive posts from the same feed, they are now folded to take up even less space. The other change I made was in the default order of timelines: Now it's Home, Accounts, local server, all servers, and then Custom feeds and RSS feeds - so the more "standard" timelines go first, and the more customizable timelines go to the end.
Next couple of days will be mostly bug fixes and smaller issues that I want to get out of the way.
Oh - almost forgot! That wasn't today but I didn't talk about it yet, you can now "Hide from Home" users (without unfollowing them), or even whole Lists of users.
The all-new RSS timeline, allowing you to follow your favourite sites and blogs from your fedi account and easily share their articles, coming (very) soon to Catodon 😎

In the months of the Firefish craze, the #1 complaint we heard from Mastodon users was "why can't I follow a hashtag in my Home feed?". So I decided to delay the release of the first stable a little, in order to implement this new feature: The ability to merge Custom feeds (Antennas) into Home. This way Catodon will have not only the ability to follow hashtags (through Custom feeds), but to also "follow" specific words or phrases.
