Why is there an ISO 639-2 code for Klingon but neither for Sindarin nor Quenya?

(Tempted to switch my user’s locale to tlh-latn-nl and see what happens.)

@bovine3dom@masto.ai You were playing with data feeds for ferry routes. Apparently Entur is working with FerryGateway to publish NeTex data: https://github.com/mfdz/GTFS-Issues/issues/255#issuecomment-3801099585

Web design by trying different kinds of Unicode spaces. (Because changing the CSS is too hard.)

One of the most enjoyable aspects of maintaining an open source project – at least for me – is that you get to choose a release name.

Here’s the list of the names of all the Routinator releases. No, I can’t remember the context for a bunch of them either.

I wrote this fifteen years ago and I still don’t know whether it is kinda good or pretentious crap. Probably the latter.

The Private Eye postcast has ads in Danish and I can’t quite decide whether that is supposed to be satirical or if their agency confused Dutch and Danish.

In Europe, the railways are using a standard called GSM-R for their wireless communication. This is a slightly modified version of regular GSM and therefore way too slow for all the things we want to do over the radio now.

So they developed a new standard based on 5G and named it the Future Railway Mobile Communication System or FRMCS (Furmics?) which is of course a very bad name since, once it is deployed, it won’t be the future system any more.

The Sept-Îsle to Schefferville railway in northern Québec was already on my list. I expected it to be a line through fairly boring flat tundra but holy crap!

Did you know that during winter – i.e., right now, there is a second hovercraft service? The ferry service on Lake Peipus in eastern Estonia right by the Russian border between Laaksaare and Piirissaar is operated by hovercraft when the lake is frozen.

@cstross@wandering.shop @jon@gruene.social Ah yes, almost missed my train once because I couldn’t find the platform and when I finally found a sign, it turned out to be a mile away, through a parking lot and around some fences.
