Are SNCF's TGVs too big for Italian tunnels?
The answer: check a map
But the problem: I do not know of a public loading gauge map for all Italian lines
Can anyone point me to one?
Grazie mille! Merci beaucoup!

Ooops
SNCF Alstom built TGV-M entry into service delayed *again* (1st July will not happen)
And I just put 1st July in this week's newsletter! 😳

This is *far from* the end of this.
I can't tell you how I know, but I'd still think it more likely than not that there'll be the Italian Riviera night train to Marseille this summer...

Creative Commons images of SNCF's forthcoming TGV-M / Avelia Horizon are rather rare still, so I have done my bit
The best pics from when I happened to see one on test, now on Flickr, high resolution, and all CC BY-SA 4.0

Also "bundle up multiple train tickets and still guarantee passenger rights" is GOOD ENOUGH for everyone
It is SIMPLE ENOUGH for an occasional passenger who wants a simple booking procedure, and is sure they will not be left out of pocket
Is FLEXIBLE ENOUGH for regular passengers, who might have monthly passes or reduction cards too
Is EASY ENOUGH for rail companies, in that they only need to sort occasional compensation claims, and not integrate their whole IT systems

I am tired of problem EXPLAINERS in railways
Can we please find more PROBLEM SOLVERS?
And sure, I fall into the trap of seeing problems everywhere as well sometimes, but Hamont 🇧🇪 - Weert 🇳🇱 is one of the easiest cross border railway problems to solve
You need:
⚡️ 7km of track
🏗️ a platform in Weert
🌱 some environmental mitigation measures
THIS IS NOT HARD
The line features in this week's newsletter https://jonworth.eu/positive-talk-about-the-future-of-rail-between-netherlands-and-belgium/

Welcome to today's thread - #CrossBorderRail 2026 Tour Day 05 - 20 Feb - Genève - Coppet - Divonne - Crassier - Nyon - Paris
New borders:
Crassier-La Rippe 🇨🇭 - Divonne-les-Bains 🇫🇷
Borders already crossed:
Russin 🇨🇭 - Pougny-Chancy 🇫🇷
A former cross border railway line at Divonne les Bains – and oddly it looks to be more intact in France than in Switzerland. I wonder if there is any way to re-activate it? Then back to Paris on a Lyria.
Today's routes on the routes map:

SNCF sent me some marketing about Zoo Park de Beauval
Oh a zoo you can get to by train, I idly thought…
Ah no

Taxi FTW! But you do get €2 off your entry

I had a rather amusing "success" in my rail work this week
I was perplexed why 10 pages seemed to be missing from an annex of a 2017 European Commission report (the annex is >300 pages)
I contacted two of the authors - who I know
Turns out...
... these pages have been missing, right since 2017
... and 🥁
I am the first person ever to notice! 😆
