I guess the vast majority of people who take the test get relatively similar scores on the different parts, so if the parts are way off from each other the scoring process says to throw it all out. (This was the WISC, the most common IQ test for kids. I don't know if the adult WAIS is similar). The psychologist wasn't very surprised, as she said she'd seen it before with the particular type of neurodivergance my son has. Thankfully he's a smart kid and knows enough to just laugh about the IQ result.
