Pondering ideas for #mastodon

One of the issues with social media is the business side of it, and that is what makes it always go to shit.

Mastodon/Fediverse is, so far, pretty clean on that because of so many people putting their own time and money in to this at every level. Thank you.

What would happen if, say, UK gov was to make an independent public use UK mastodon server, gov funded. And an official gov one for official stuff as well.

I have to wonder what impact that would have.

I am a few weeks in to "#Mastodon being my only social media".

It is, err, interesting.

I have zero local engagement in #Abergavenny on this - which I sort of miss.

I have zero family engagement on this - but we have group iMessage, so really makes no odds to that.

I have news, and some of the insanity of the world in my face, but less fake news I feel.

I have less stress, mostly, I think

I can "run out" of "scroll" while I have coffee in the morning, which is new!

- The shit in the US, and middle East, FFS.
- The way lobbyists seem to control (whichever) government policy. I really did not realise how much this was until now, honest.
- The way no government policy seems to understand reality from any technical perspective.
- That money actually rules all this shit, somehow.
- That poor people do not count, somehow, even if I am not poor, I worry.

When someone checks your ID, i.e. checks the ID matches *you*, they do things like check your face looks like your face on the ID. They may need to know your age for some reason (like buying alcohol).

But do they ever get you to strip so they can check your genitalia? [thankfully, not so, in my experience]

And if not, why is #sex, or #gender, even on the ID?

I am stressed over online safety act shit extending to VPNs, and keep running through the rant in my head and not making the video because I'll sound insane.

The world is going mad in so many ways.

If I do it, I may have to do it with Alice on my lap to show I am "thinking of the children".

Maybe a really calm "Alice, there are some web sites you should probably not go to - but we have set your iPad up so you cannot go there by mistake", and go from there.
