'Nieuw onderzoek verklaart waarom chronische pijn langer aanhoudt bij vrouwen'
"De onderzoekers tonen aan dat zogenoemde monocyten – een type immuuncel – essentieel zijn bij het beëindigen van pijn nadat weefsel is beschadigd. Deze cellen produceren interleukine-10 (IL-10), een ontstekingsremmend molecuul dat pijnsignalen helpt uitschakelen, zodra herstel is ingezet."
"Uit experimenten in muismodellen en aanvullend onderzoek in menselijk materiaal blijkt dat deze IL-10-producerende monocyten bij mannen actiever zijn dan bij vrouwen. Daardoor wordt de pijnrespons bij mannen sneller afgeremd. Bij vrouwen verloopt dit proces minder krachtig, waardoor pijnsignalen langer actief blijven, zelfs wanneer de oorspronkelijke schade al hersteld is. De studie wijst bovendien op een rol van geslachtshormonen in dit mechanisme: testosteron lijkt de pijnremmende werking van monocyten te versterken."

The ugliness of organized #hate campaigns is on full display, even here in the #fediverse.
I find it bitterly ironic that they seem obsessed with the shooter being a #trans #woman, trying to blame it on her #gender.
But they do not blame the gender of all the #men who have been mass shooters. One a day, on average, in the USA.
#Canada is reeling from our second school shooting in a decade.
