An Lanntair: Exhibition opening:  5pm, Fri 3 Apr 2026 Exhibition run: 4 Apr – 16 May 2026 This work examines cultural change and depopulation in my home in the Outer Hebrides. Gradually, across the world it feels as though culture has been reorganised into something administered rather than lived. It persists, but often as reference or memory. In the Outer Hebrides, culture was not separate from daily life. It was shaped through proximity, shared responsibility, and attention to place. As populations thin and systems scale outward, those conditions become harder to sustain and tradition becomes performance. The work asks whether small cultures can still be shaped collectively. The past is not finished but something we are responsible for continuing, and the installation explores how that inheritance sits within a contemporary context. Without collective action, culture risks becoming thin, fragmented, or lost. The installation reflects this by changing its output in relation to the number of participants present: coherence emerges through gathering, and dissolves as numbers fall. Can we live inside culture again, or are we destined only to pine at it through museum glass? Fraser MacBeath is an audiovisual artist, composer and field recordist from the Isle of Lewis. An Lanntair: Explore the rich and diverse world of rhythm across musical genres and cultures. This interactive class will take you on a journey through music from around the world, discovering how different communities use rhythm to express identity, tradition, and creativity. You’ll learn about the history, sound, and notation of a variety of rhythmic styles, building both understanding and practical skills.
Through engaging games and hands-on activities, children will experience rhythm in a fun and accessible way. There will be opportunities to play and create rhythms using any instrument, body percussion, or voice, making the class suitable for all musical backgrounds and experience levels.
Suitable for age 12 – 16.

An Lanntair: Looking for a creative hangout? Join us at Pointers Youth Centre on North Beach street in Stornoway for the new Art Cafe for age 14 – 18 year olds.  Each month there will be a group participatory art project to dive into. This is your space to meet friends, express yourself, and make something amazing together.  Hot drinks and toast provided. The Art Cafe will be staffed by a Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Community Learning and Development youth worker and one of An Lanntair’s Artist Educators. This project is part of An Lanntair’s Youth Arts Project supported by Young Start. Young Start aims to create opportunities for Scotland’s children and young people aged 8 to 24 to help them realise their full potential. An Lanntair: “I thought it would devastate me. It did the opposite. It is a film that everybody that is human should see.” – Kathryn Grody January 29, 2024. Palestinian Red Crescent Society volunteers receive an emergency call. In Gaza, a 5-year-old girl is trapped in a car under fire from IDF tanks, pleading for rescue. While trying to keep her on the line, they do everything they can to get an ambulance to her. Her name was Hind Rajab. The film uses real recordings by the Red Crescent from the day humanitarian workers desperately tried to save Hind. The result is a powerful, unflinching, truthful retelling of events, as writer and director Kaouther Ben Hania invites us to watch and to bear witness to Hind’s death. The Voice of Hind Rajab premiered in September 2025 at the Venice Film Festival, with executive producers including Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara in attendance. The screening made history, receiving a 23-minute ovation. An Lanntair: A collaboration between multidisciplinary performance artist Freya Pellie and space scientist turned filmmaker Dr Jonathan Doyle, Calanais: Still in Motion is the output of the inaugural Calanais Residency. Commissioned to capture the significance of the Calanais Standing Stones during the major Lunar Standstill in June 2025, Calanais: Still in Motion is an intersection of science and folklore. Informed by the sites themselves, social observations, conversations with those met along the way, and research across fields, the work centres around Calanais as a gathering place through the ages drawing people from near and far, each with their own reasons and meaning.
Rather than seeking to capture the stones alone, as one might hope for in a visiting photograph, the work focuses on the human element of such sites, both serving as a reminder of and encouraging curiosity in the people that built them, used them, and continue to draw inspiration from them.
This collection is comprised of a short film and poem, as well as a series of photographic images which capture some of the themes explored in the residency and the stories found along the way.

Welcome to a gentle, engaging space designed especially for babies aged 12 months and under and their grown-ups.
Our sessions provide a friendly, relaxed, and supportive environment.  Each class offers carefully planned sensory experiences to stimulate your baby’s developing brain and senses. We explore:
– Soft lighting and visual stimulation
– A variety of textures and tactile play
– Gentle sounds, music and rhythm
– Well-known nursery rhymes and songs (in English and Gaelic)
– Movement, bonding activities, and calming moments
Sensory activities are designed to support early cognitive development, motor skills, language awareness, and emotional attachment — all through play.
Most importantly, this is a safe and welcoming space for connection. A place to slow down, enjoy precious time with your baby, and meet other parents and carers in a warm community setting. You are always encouraged to feed, change, or soothe your baby whenever needed.
Book a ticket for each baby attending. Adult tickets free. If the minimum number of bookings is not reached, the session will be cancelled.
