Playing the Platform Piano
Portrait from my 'favourite stations' project. Here's Charlotte pretending to play the floor tiles which look a bit like piano keys.
It's amazing how many people have never noticed this feature at Waterloo tube station. The platform piano keys were added in 1986-1988 when the station was retiled based on artist Christopher Tipping's ‘theatrical themes’ design.

I've started exploring people's favourite stations or stops on the London Underground Tube Map. I meet people at their favourite stations, taking photos and interviewing them to find out what makes it so special.
Originally named Brompton (Gloucester Road) when it opened on 1 October 1868, Gloucester Road is now a busy Zone 1 station served by the District, Circle & Piccadilly lines.
Anthony loves showcasing the beautiful, often overlooked parts of London. For him every area, including every tube station, tells it's own unique story.
“The minute I stepped off the train at Gloucester Road, I knew it was my favourite.”
From the warm yellow lighting to the striking Victorian architecture and the art installation on Platform 4, the station feels like a time capsule, almost like stepping into a museum.

Leaving Hanwell

A short walk from here is the Wharncliffe Viaduct. The viaduct was built in 1836 and is a picturesque place to view trains zooming on their respective journeys. I'll see if I can find some photos of it!
