mastodon 4.5.6+glitch-th

Purple is my natural hair color. I have strong opinions about software and sometime I even get to make them reality. Same for the state of the world in general, but I have a lot less influence there.

Professionally: Linux Graphics Plumbing for Qubes OS. Unprofessionally: aarch64laptops, postmarketOS, lots of random projects, local activism/politics.

Hahahaha turns out the I/O errors seen with SD cards in UHS mode on Snapdragon laptops were because the device tree was set up to effectively overclock the SD host controller… to double the frequency!! because the "original" clock source was used instead of the "divided by 2" one. It still mostly worked, I only needed to reinsert microSD cards a few times to get past the initial errors! :D

@marlies@tacobelllabs.net @bodil@social.treehouse.systems @cwebber@social.coop none of the current systemd maintainers work at IBM/RedHat. Also the slop machine access was apparently donated by someone from Zuckbook.

@elena Stocking up on popcorn for the ineveitable datacenter/GPU ponzi scheme crash, and being really annoying to anyone who's not radically anti-"AI". On a more serious note, I'm lucky enough to work on important and cool Free Software projects for a living, as part of a great slopless team, so I'm trying my best to perform well there and stay focused;outside of that, it's random things at different times but right now I'm once again on my bringup bullshit, making more and more phones and tablets run real upstream Linux;(and one of the goals of that is to get to a trial run of daily driving a postmarketOS phone ASAP);Becoming absolutely obsessed with the https://modal.cx vision (as I was already thinking a lot about p2p… and just recently had a frustrating experience with collectively "self-hosting" client-server infra at a hacklab) and planning to try to organize a local group also aligned with that vision to push the same projects in the same directions (starting out by preparing a talk for local events)

I guess #Servo is now the only serious browser engine taking a stand against slop, even mentioning ethical issues? (Despite one bronze sponsor listed on the homepage being "somethingsomething AI" heh)

We really need to get servo-gtk to a more serious state where epiphany could use it…

Let's gooo, got working DSI before going to sleep and officially declaring the weekend to be over :) :) :) so this is sm6115-motorola-guamp also known to normal people as the Moto G9 Play. Coming to actual upstream Linux (and U-Boot) soon!

Amazingly, just like river this one has a PMI632 (so battery % and charging do still need WIP drivers and the fuel gauge one is very funny right now). And just like on the SC7180 mini-PC, the missing MDSS reset was causing trouble again! (Except while there it was causing a visual artifact due to the EFI framebuffer still being on, here it was not letting the display show any image at all)

servers suck infra sucks ops sucks sysadmin sucks

the world needs actually good p2p like yesterday

the @modal@mastodon.design @p2panda@autonomous.zone developments are really good, the contacts mockup from fosdem looks super neat. also I think one of the related presentations mentioned the need for a distinction between nodes and clients which I'm really happy to see. we really need p2p systems that don't reveal your IP address directly to everyone by default. we need p2p systems based on explicit consent for everything, but with reasonable defaults and good UI on top of that to make it as easy to use as commercial apps. so much can be done and isn't done yet. I think the p2p "uncloud" of the future really needs the notion of groups of various trust levels to be at its core. Has anyone thought about how to do identity/account recovery without central authorities? I have. I think it can be community-based. Instead of "delegate to email" or "upload government ID" the system can require a quorum among contacts and members of high-trust groups you're a member of to vote on associating a new keypair to the "lost" account. Good UI can be built for that idea.
