#AlternateFridayMusic Feb 27 2026 This week, we're supposed to #Obey? The Brian Jonestown Massacre - “Resist Much Obey Little” from Don't Get Lost (2017) For years I’d heard #BrianJonestownMassacre here and there, mostly on college radio, and dug what I heard, but somehow an impression never stuck, if I’m being honest, until #AnthonyBourdain put founder/front man/driving force/connective tissue #AntonNewcombe in front of my eyeballs on his food/travelogue show #PartsUnknown. Well thanks, Tony, for helping to correct that oversight. Newcombe excretes music from his pores, and puts out a record whenever he stops to collect this vital bodily fluid. #Shoegaze, #GarageRock, #PychedelicRock, jangly #PowerPop - Newcombe's oeuvre checks a lot of boxes, feeling a bit how I imagine it might be to walk through a car wash: Startling, seems fun at the start! Abrasive at times, chaotic but with a rhythm and a direction, keeps you moving, leaves you a little confused but cleansed. As for this track - could there be a more appropriate time? But be careful out there, friends. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiN0xpwEIoE

This week's #AlternateFridayMusic theme is #bee. Here's one of my favorite blues recordings: Slim Harpo: I'm a King Bee (1957) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWLvm11MAaM& #music #SlimHarpo #blues #Excello

#AlternateFridayMusic Jan 30, 2026, the word is #Kid This is an unexpected one. Bjork and comedian Steve Coogan sing a song about a man having an affair with his au pair. She takes care of his kids. https://youtu.be/0GnAn0oxvVY?si=CVqQbNqHwTZXb2b1

(I recently found out that there were more songs from the album with videos, but this is not one of them, alas.) #music #Buggles

#AlternateFridayMusic This is for Jan 30, 2026, #Kid The Who, “The Kids Are Alright” soundtrack, 1979 I encountered this film at the height of my Who mania, and it was EVERYTHING. It has grainy black-and-white footage of early gigs, TV appearances including the moment on the Smothers Brothers when Keith destroyed Pete’s hearing with explosives (not a metaphor), performances at The Rolling Stones' Rock and Roll Circus and at Woodstock, the video for “Success Story,” an outstanding deep cut of John’s (with the studio recording from “Who By Numbers," not included on the soundtrack album), their last appearance with Keith at Shephardson Studios, staged expressly for the film, and more. What it didn't have is the song “The Kids Are Alright.” (Seems they’ve added it onto the later DVD and Blu-ray releases behind additional closing credits, but I liked their little joke better.) One of the best segments of the film/selections on the album, and somewhat in keeping with the “kid” theme on its own, is their performance of Mose Allison’s “Young Man’s Blues.” The attitude of the original was already pure punk; in The Who’s hands, this jazz/blues piano piece becomes muscular, even menacing. They fucking kill it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8Xy7qRffog #TheWho #MoseAllison #KeithMoon #PeteTownshend #JohnEntwistle #RogerDaltry #SmothersBrothers #RollingStones #TheRollingStones #RockAndRollCircus #Woodstock #60s #60sMusic #70s #70sMusic #Rock #RockMusic
