#eroticMusings Week 48 (April 26-May 2) Setting PoV (any character): What’s something you think is special about the place you’re in?

Maylees is absolutely delighted to discover that mermaids do, in fact, exist after she rescues one (called Khu) from drowning.

A drowning mermaid? It’s complicated, and ultimately sapphic.

Although it’s on order I don’t yet have a machine capable of rendering Maylees, Khu and the ocean in the same image but here’s a textual taster. (Oh, Khu cannot pronounce Maylees name, it comes out as “Nayee”.)

The soft warmth of Nayee pressed against Khu’s body and she never wanted it to end. Only the slightest boost from her tail kept them both floating, as the ocean rose and fell around them.

#eroticMusings Week 44 (March 29-April 4) Culture: Is there an aspect of culture or political stance that shapes most or all of your erotica? Inclusiveness, equality, tolerance. But I have to include the negatives of those to highlight it, and that's easy writing in a Victorian/Edwardian alternative universe. #writing #writingCommunity

#eroticMusings Week 41. (March 8-14) Craft: Are you self-taught, or have you been trained or mentored in your craft? Would you like more? When I first started writing (50 years ago) I had no idea what I was doing but the "feel" of a story was in me from having read so much. I taught myself to play the guitar from a book. I wrote songs knowing what songs were supposed to sound like from listening to so many. My writing was honed by being journalist/editor for over 20 years, early on I suppose you could call the feedback "mentoring". Writing sex scenes was easy (they're just action scenes), but learning the sequence of increasing intimacy was a valuable tool I got from a blog. When it came to screenwriting, I read books, screenwriter blogs (especially Bill Martell). For 3D rendering I had my grounding in Computer Science, screenwriting, and movie making and I studied lighting to fill in that gap. #eroticMusings Week 40 (March 1-7) Studio: Where/how do you promote your erotica? Is it effective? How do you evaluate that? It's pretty hard (ahem). Mostly I promote in Bookfunnel promotions, although my erotica stories really aren't a good fit for most of them because my work is not kink-based. I measure it by any sales I get. I would add the series to my other regular promotions but I don't want to annoy folks with too many. And it needs to be better targeted. I need to set up new channels with new accounts just for the erotic stuff - but that's not today. #writing #writingCommunity #3dRender #noAI #madeWithDaz #3dArt #CGI #art

#eroticMusings Week 39 (February 22-28) Culture: Western erotica has long used the exotic, mysterious East as a canvas. Postcolonialist Edward Said criticised Orientalism as "theatrical ... the stage on which the whole East is confined." Whatever your background, does your erotica explore themes of the "exotic", and/or of "otherness"? Hard to tell. My erotica often involves people who are "other," but are they? I am Eurasian from a South Asian step family, so what is Other when writing about these aspects? I don't venture beyond my own experiences, so perhaps I am playing it safe. Raised in the 'West,' I suppose I 'Other' frequently in my erotica, but I feel it is from a place of understanding. Edward Said's Orientalism definitely influenced me at university.

Short answer: No. Slightly longer answer: You might argue Valentine's comment "I love your skin" when canoodling with Maliha (Anglo-Indian) might be thought of that way but that's not the intention in the writing. Veronica is disabled but the story is about her ceasing to judge herself because of it, and being given love without judgement. (Also lots of sex.) My stories deal with othering (in all its forms) but never as a positive thing. #writing #writingCommunity

#eroticMusings Week 36 (February 1-7) Characters Do any of your characters, like the waxing and waning moon, show different aspects of self that they cycle/transition between? Natural cycles like menstruation, or more fantastical? Menstruation does occur in my "Veronica's Life" stories. A scene involving it turned up so from that point onwards it was necessary to know. It might affect events indirectly. "Veronica's Life" is historical (1910) and corresponds to exact dates, I even know the weather from the recorded information. #writing #writingCommunity
