The Salsus people began life in the deserts of Exoplanet 74657. They, like all other life, used available resources to build homes. For them it was salt. They mastered the art of manufacturing perfect rectangular blocks. Eventually, one king built the customary-next-step-in-cultural-evolution pyramid. But now, centuries later, the climate has shifted. It rains one day every ten years on the desert, which is slowly, ever so slowly, dissolving the pyramid (but creating beautiful crystals on the outer surface). Now that politics in the region has stabilized, the decades old plans to build a protective roof over the pyramid (and the controversial ‘Shopping Destination and Leisure Complex’) are being dusted off. #scifi #exoplanet #MicroFiction #nature #photography #frost #ice

They look so beautiful and soft and peaceful. But on Exoplanet 58294 the native flora found a taste for blood. While not able to walk, their long thin stems spring into action. The innocent looking red petals pop open in an instant, sharp and deadly. Insects can be captured whole, while small mammals will succumb to the toxin within seconds. The plant can then drag the unfortunate into its branches and slowly feed. The toxin puts humans in bed for a week, so visitors are given armoured trousers for outside excursions, and told not to stop and smell the flowers. #scifi #exoplanet #MicroFiction #bloomscrolling #nature #photography

When the Cranet people of Exoplanet 23584 first ground glass and invented telescopes, they looked up and saw the dots were planets. But they also saw millions of these strange white clusters floating between the first and second planet. Later they understood that they were frozen water, similar to Saturn’s Rings, but the perfect distance from the sun to warm and cool into spheres. It must have been winter when they named them Cleocran. Because that translates as Snowmen. #scifi #exoplanet #seed #fruit #nature #photography

On Exoplanet 09774 these seeds have gained the name of Walking Apples. Plants don’t walk, (well, except for Triffids) but these ones do, sort of. Once dropped from the branch, the ‘legs’ move the seed along the soil upwards of 10 meters. There are no birds to spread the seed on this planet, which is probably why they walk. The seeds mostly trundle along at night, although we don’t know why at night, or how they know it’s night, although the nights do normally last 37 earth hours. #scifi #exoplanet #seed #nature #photography #magicinthemundane
