Judee Sill is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Judee Sill. Released on September 15, 1971, it was the first album on David Geffen's Asylum label.[5] Backing musicians include John Beck and Jim Pons from the Leaves. While the majority of the album was produced by Henry Lewy, Graham Nash handled the duties for the single "Jesus Was a Cross Maker", with his production designed to aim for radio airplay. Musically, the songs are delivered in an acoustic style on guitar and, for "Jesus Was a Cross Maker" and "Enchanted Sky Machines", piano. The songs, after work by Sill and Lewy, feature elements of pop, folk, country, and gospel, but also strong classical influences. Two of Sill's biggest influences were Bach and Ray Charles. Lyrically, Sill's songs follow a theme of finding redemption. - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQwSPNNp0es&list=PLJfwklRIOOp3QfFjND4-pEJZfrlxOH6Zb&index=1 #JudeeSill #FemaleSingerSongwriter #Folk #AsylumRecords #Music #DavidCrosby #GrahamNash #RitaCoolidge

People asked me to record and post songs I wrote and turned in for "Appreciating Country Music," a humanities course I took in college way back when we rode chariots to school. I'm 99% sure this was one of them. 👍 🤠 🎸 The acoustic guitar is an old Goya my dad once gave my mom for Christmas. https://video.stevesworld.co/w/p/3MYn5pQ5b6oFLaDWsAXMzq?playlistPosition=1&resume=true #music #country #pop #folk

Tear Down The Walls by Vince Martin And Fred Neil, released on Elektra in 1964. Tear Down the Walls Review by William Ruhlmann ...Accompanied by Felix Pappalardi on the bass-like guitarron and John Sebastian on harmonica, the duo strummed 12-string acoustic guitars and used their strikingly different voices to reinvent traditional songs like "I Know You Rider" and "Lonesome Valley," popular covers like Bonnie Dobson's "Morning Dew," and some originals. Neil's "Wild Child in a World of Trouble," which he sang alone, looked forward to his career as a solo singer/songwriter, which commenced not long after this album was released. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUOwVmf65o8&list=OLAK5uy_mk33LAqHt8OQ-CUp6RIKdZZ7KjsGJuSDE #FredNeil #VinceMartin #Folk #12stringguitar #Elektra #Music

I'm A Loner by Shawn Phillips, released on Columbia in 1964. I'm a Loner Review by Richie Unterberger Phillips was still in pretty much of a traditional early-'60s folk troubadour mode on his debut album, on which he's accompanied only by his 12-string acoustic guitar. He did stand out from much of the competition (certainly in Britain, where the American singer was based by the time of this mid-'60s release) by virtue of his eclectic repertoire, impassioned delivery, and imaginative arrangements. He wasn't as much of an innovator as peers such as Dino Valenti and Fred Neil were in this respect, but like them he was breaking away to some degree from hidebound, stiff folk deliveries. He wasn't recording much original material, though, and this set is largely devoted to covers of songs by the likes of Phil Ochs (including the obscure "I'm Tired";.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRy5oG30V_Q #ShawnPhillips #Folk #PhilOchs #Music #12stringguitar
