40 years ago today, a movie that took itself too seriously bombed at the box office, spawning a creative franchise of sequels, TV shows, novels and comics. Now it's getting rebooted. Should there have been only one? https://www.polygon.com/40-years-later-highlander/?utm_source=fark&utm_medium=website&utm_content=link&utm_campaign=fark&ICID=ref_fark #fandom #entertainment #Hollywood #interesting

The 2026 Oscars without the red carpet? “Hollywood is reportedly considering scrapping the red carpet to avoid appearing frivolous while there’s a war.” Scrapping the red carpet? It’s a possibility. According to PageSix, the 2026 Academy Awards could risk not having its historic and iconic red carpet. Indeed, the producers are considering the possibility “of scrapping the red carpet” in order not to be seen as “frivolously celebratory” amidst the “Operation Epic Fury” military operation in the Middle East. According to PageSix, several industry insiders report that so far there have been no changes in the plans for the opening ceremony of the Oscars – which includes the traditional walk of stars and guests before the award presentation – even though the Academy Awards board is not deaf to the tragic international moment of war. Another insider from the awards highlighted that the organizers are “looking around 360 degrees in anticipation of every type of scenario” because the sensitivity to the issue of war triggered by Israel and the United States against Iran is certainly not lacking. Three Iranian directors are nominated for the 2026 Oscars: Jafar Panahi for "The Untouchable" (nominated for best international feature film); Sara Khaki and Mohammadreza Eyni for "Cutting Through Rocks" (nominated in the best documentary category). There were once 12 movie palaces across an eight-block stretch of Downtown Los Angeles. Now, none of them still operates as a full-time commercial cinema. For The Ankler, Matthew Frank takes a look at these relics of a different era, and some of the efforts to save them. https://flip.it/T_FBlf #Cinema #Movies #Hollywood #Film

“That’s not Jim Carrey, but a clone of him”: the appearance of the “unrecognizable” actor at the Cesar Awards sparks conspiracy theories. Is he or isn’t he? On the web, the ‘case’ regarding Jim Carrey is erupting. The actor on Thursday, February 26th, participated in the César Awards ceremony in Paris, receiving an honorary award, but more than this, he’s being talked about because, in reality, someone else was standing on the stage in his place. The ‘conspiracy theory’ Jim Carrey participated in the ceremony and was introduced on stage by Michel Gondry, who directed him in “If Only”. The honorary award was greeted by a warm audience who gave the actor a standing ovation, but on social media, the theory began to circulate that the person on stage wasn’t the real Carrey. Some claim it’s a look-alike, others even speak of a clone, presenting their fanciful theory by comparing photos from yesterday and today of Jim, perhaps forgetting that time passes for everyone, and that any aesthetic alterations (very common even among Hollywood stars) can significantly alter a person’s features. The article “That’s not Jim Carrey, but a clone”: Jim Carrey’s ‘unrecognizable’ appearance at the Cesar Awards sparks conspiracy theories is from Il Fatto Quotidiano. #JimCarrey #Paris #MichelGondry #Carrey #Hollywood #JimCarrey’s #IlFattoQuotidiano https://www.ilfattoquotidiano.it/2026/03/02/quello-non-e-jim-carrey-ma-un-suo-clone-la-partecipazione-dellattore-irriconoscibile-ai-cesar-awards-scatena-le-teorie-complottiste/8310761/

Revived: after 10 years I still think the bear deserved the Oscar, not DiCaprio. I’ll put my hands up for intellectual honesty. Among the names that make up the well-known trio of Mexican directors who have conquered Hollywood in the last twenty-five years – Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón, and Alejandro González Iñárritu – there is one that I simply can’t appreciate. I find it… #Oscar #DiCaprio #Mexican #Hollywood #GuillermodelToro #AlfonsoCuarón https://www.today.it/vision/cinema/revenant-redivivo-leonardo-dicaprio-oscar-anniversario.html
