Oh my, 2026 is definitely the year of transitions for me. Not only am I retiring small loans from my parents and ex that I am no longer in contact with in a couple months, but I've decided I'll be coming off Medicaid (state health insurance) when my current plan ends at the end of November. I'm currently in what they call the "buy in program". Basically I earn too much public benefit to qualify for Medicaid, but as long as I earn something in a plan year, I can pay to play. I'm fully disabled with no income, and so this has to change. It does mean incurring new costs, but it simplifies things too, as some medical providers will not work with patients who have Medicaid in their profile. It also stops my guilt and head trip that I briefly had minimal income when first qualifying for the buy-in program a couple years ago, but haven't since.
