Equinox is the second album by Sérgio Mendes and Brasil '66, released in April 1967, with vocalists Lani Hall and Janis Hansen. Review by Richard S. Ginell Equinox continues the scrumptiously winning sound that Sergio Mendes cooked up in the mid-'60s, this time a bit more fleshed out with John Pisano's guitar, a slightly thicker texture, and even an imitation sitar (this was, after all, 1967). Again, the mix of American pop tunes old and new and Brazilian standards and sleepers is impeccable (although it didn't yield any substantial hits), and the treatments are smooth, swinging, and very much to the point... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IRVI7N710k&list=OLAK5uy_l1_NeDsAESWrGYCEBxarVVCpsam6DZeIU #SergioMendes #MPB #BossaNova #Jazz #SpaceAgePop #60sPop #Music

Fool on the Hill is the fourth studio album by Sérgio Mendes and Brasil '66, released in 1968. This is the first album featuring the second edition of Brasil '66. Mendes replaced all of the original band members (with the exception of lead singer Lani Hall). The dismissed members went on to form the short-lived group, The Carnival, which released one self-titled album in 1969. This is also the first appearance of Gracinha Leporace on a Sérgio Mendes album. The album features two top 40 pop singles: the title track and "Scarborough Fair". The traditional English folk song (covered notably by Simon & Garfunkel) was featured in both the trailer and the soundtrack for the 1973 film Heavy Traffic. - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFe0sc8XW94&list=RDqFe0sc8XW94&start_radio=1 #SergioMendes #Brasil66 #BossaNova #SpaceAgePop #Music #TheBeatles #BrazilianMusic #Jazz #60sPop

Ended Thursday and welcomed Friday after walking in the rain with Strings Aflame Volume 2 by Esquivel. A bit of a chequered release history: Originally scheduled to be released as Esquivel & His Orchestra “You And The Night And The Music”, RCA Victor LPM/LSP-2085 (K2PB-3994). Recorded with 2 additional tracks, “You And The Night And The Music” (currently unreleased) and “I Only Have Eyes For You” (found on reissues of “Other Worlds Other Sounds” BMG 74321 35747 2 and Wax Time 772229 RCA canceled the original 1959 release in the US, but not in Japan and put it out on its budget Camden label in 1962. Lovely space-age pop from one of the masters anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eya83jGJkU&list=RD-eya83jGJkU&start_radio=1 #Esquivel #SpaceAgePop #EasyListening #Music #Strings

Ended Tuesday and welcomed Wendesday with Harp And Soul by David Snell released on Columbia in 1966. David Snell - Harp And Soul Review David Snell's Harp And Soul-yeah, that 1966 LP-is one of those records you stumble on while digging through crates, half expecting to hate it, then end up playing it three times in a row. It's not flashy. Doesn't scream for attention. But damn if it doesn't settle into your bones after a while. Snell, mostly known as a session harpist and later a film score conductor, steps out here as both player and co-conductor (alongside Johnny Scott, who also handles flute and orchestra duties). And honestly? He holds his own. First off, the harp. You'd think it'd be twee. Or worse-background noise for a department store in 1972. But Snell doesn't let it get syrupy. He's got this dry, almost percussive touch... https://david-snellhr.bandcamp.com/album/harp-and-soul https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfbPffD1_dY&list=RDCfbPffD1_dY&start_radio=1 #DavidSnell #Jazz #Harp #JohnnyScott #BritJazz #LibraryMusic #Music #SpaceAgePop

Ended Tuesday and welcomed Wednesday after a swim with East To West by Paul Mark and His Orchestra released on Imperial in 1961. Ambient Exotica wrote: "There is no Exotica album like Paul Mark's East To West..no other act or orchestra can unchain the same multiplicity of Lounge, Space-Age, Exotica and Far Eastern traces... The incessant mixture of Paul Mark's Hammond organ and celeste with the gongs, xylophone, koto and shamisen is awe-inspiring and unique in the Exotica landscape. Some tunes are Rock-like and joyful thanks to the simulation of a fairground organ, others bathe in mystique and darker half-tones. Exotica fans who are fond of the Japanese tonality will be happy to know that East To West features two to three tunes that reappear a bit more regularly in their favorite genre. The rest is excitingly alien and deliciously strange.." http://www.ambientexotica.com/exorev205_paulmark_easttowest/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxoccJKwAUw&list=PLqx8HE-cr3HuxH1xoHvcLOMvsJvoFSkOF&index=8 #PaulMark #Exotica #SpaceAgePop #Music #Lounge
