In a survey of 25 countries, the United States was the only county in which more adults describe the morality of their compatriots as bad than good. 53% of respondents said that the morality and ethics of other people in their country is either somewhat or very bad. Since this is a new question for Pew Research, the team says they don't know whether this is a long-held view or something new. A million miles away in sentiment, but just kilometres away geographically, 92% of Canadians think other Canadians are either very good or somewhat good.

U.S. Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer appeared on a panel together at the 62nd Munich Security Conference along with Matthew Whittaker, United States ambassador to NATO. They talked about complicated issues of foreign policy and geo-diplomacy for an hour or so and it was, at the time, seen as an uncontroversial, non-newsworthy conversation. Yet a few days later, the press was full of stories about their slip-ups and lack of knowledge. Emily Horne, a former National Security Council and State Department spokesperson, did a deep dive into what had happened. What she found? Stories from "pink slime" sites — local news publications that are largely funded by right-wing dark money groups — picked up and "laundered" into real news by POLITICO, The New York Times and more.

There typically isn't much conversation/dialogue with publishers because they use RSS to add their content to Flipboard. However one advantage is that their content is typically organized topically into Magazines (for example, @theverge@flipboard.com is the main account, whereas @science-news-theverge is just the science coverage). That means your entire feed won't be flooded with every single thing an outlet publishes if you follow the account and you can just check out the things you're interested in.
