Earlier this week I read a column by a #Dutch #architect who compares leaving his lawn chair in the street and what we would think of that. Yet car parking... I am publishing his column "Parking is not a birth right" in English today with his permission. #Ottcity #Ottawa

In Canada, Canada was 8th at the Olympic Games, but in the rest of the world Canada ended 11th. It all depends what you count. Canada arrived with 207 olympians (hockey teams add up), the Netherlands with 39, Norway with 80. Funding is what several people pointed at as a reason for reaching the top, not necessarily a large population.

This week we're taking a look at the new #ottbike tracks on Greenfield Ave. The sewer replacement project took nearly half a decade but we now have (bonus!) new bike tracks. Lets have a look at this latest addition to the #cycling network. http://hansonthebike.com/2026/02/21/new-bike-tracks-greenfield-ottawa/?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=jetpack_social

@human3500@ottawa.place work has restarted on Fisher at McCooey. That large concrete circular piece has now been lowered in the hole.

Also, a crane has been erected at the Lone Star plaza for the 24 story rental tower.

In the last quarter of 2025, #Apple shipped 19,600,000 Ipads. Let that sink in. That is 213,000 every single day. And virtually all will be obsolete in ten years and end up on the e-waste conveyor belts. Including other brands, 192 million tablets were shipped in 2025, or around half a million every day.

@human3500@ottawa.place it is unbelievable really, I took a pic in august assuming it was nearly done. I am puzzled what takes so long. It appears the big elements to finish it lying in the farm are all there. Perhaps rerouting cable work around the big hole?

@hazematman@mastodon.social I never cycle a single meter on Merivale. I use the streets behind it and coming in from the back of the malls and/or via side streets. Many malls have a connection at side streets too and I often just bike from mall to mall via parking lots and shortcuts. Granted, I don’t have to be there often. If you look a bit closer on the map (I have added a pdf to the post now) you’ll notice the friendlier bike routes.
