Does anyone know how to search one's favorite list? I'm looking for a post by someone I follow that I know I favorited, from months ago. I thought I'd bookmarked it, but it's not there. I fave a lot, so a manual search would take forever.
TIA

RE: @shibacomputer@post.lurk.org

Practically every paragraph of this could be its own essay. It is so good and worth the time.

"Each infrastructure began with promises of liberation and human triumph. But stability calcifies into compliance through legal policy, economic incentives, consolidation and embedded technical defaults. The core of Cyberspace’s calcification is the filesystem: The moment you store a representation of something or someone on a disk, you have already done something other than create memory. You have inherited its future risk, its potential criminality, and its coming reinterpretation under laws not yet written – or laws not yet abused."

OMG this so much: on your website's address form, put the ZIP Code first and let the city state and country auto fill. Then below that you put the street address. Far less typing and scrolling through lists of states and countries.

Also, ditch the street address auto complete. Just let me type my address and don't make me keep clicking away your incorrect suggestions or give my address to Google.

Oh, more fun uses for LLMs.

It's complicated, but I'm switching from our current 3 license for the cannabis nursery to a single one called a Microbusiness. License fees are based on estimated gross sales. Here's a screenshot of the part of the application where you state your estimated sales. It starts at $1 million. That shows how they view the industry and how stacked it is against small businesses. This license will cost me about $5,000. If we make $1million or if we make $40,000, the fee is the same.

I also just had to pay $1,000 application fee to give them all of the same info they already have for the other licenses. If you've got millions of dollars in investor cash, $1,000 is nothing. For a small business, $1,000 is a lot of money.

Virtually every regulation is like that. They truly want all the small independent businesses to go away.

I'm licensing an archival photo to someone for a documentary. I'm guessing these days even high end labs don't try to clean dust off old film/slides before scanning, since it can be easily done digitally later, without risk of damaging the film itself. I know there's a way to do this in Photoshop, but I wasn't in the mood to learn something new tonight, so figured I could zoom in and zap the spots one by one using familiar tools in Lightroom.

I mean, how long could it take to do it that way...? (Hours and hours.)

My #SuperbOwl contribution. This burrow owl near Salton Sea is not amused.

I shot this years ago, one of dozens. It's still my favorite of the set.

RE: @heidilifeldman@mastodon.social

So, anyone who remembers the mass protests of the late 1970s and 1980s against, for example, Diablo Canyon and Seabrook nuke plants, missile launches at Vandenberg AFB, nuclear testing at the Nevada Test Site and so on, might want to share your stories right about now.

These proposed concentration camps provide perfect opportunities for mass protests, occupations and blockades. Plus, their owners and the contractors and the funders all have offices that can be locations for protests.

@cstross@wandering.shop I use iPhone's voice-to-text feature quite a lot. It's how I do most email and Mastodon posting these days, but it has gotten SO MUCH worse and this is the kind of mangled output it now frequently provides. What is worse is that sometimes it gets it right the first try, but then changes it a second or two later without me noticing. I have to proofread so carefully and fix so many errors that sometimes it is easier to just type.

On the fediverse, posts rarely go viral. But at times, they will go "fungal", like mycelium quietly working its way through the substrate, popping up again like mushrooms every few months to make another quick round before going dormant again.
