Choir concert yesterday, and today we sang one of the pieces in the morning service which is streamed. Magnificat by Chiara Maria Cozzolani. I had a little solo part, and it went pretty well to my relief.

Choir concert today, exiting because I had a (tiny) solo. Last rehearsal was chaotic, at the concert everyone pulled themselves together. Audience was very enthousiastic according to the choir members who were collecting at the exit (these concerts are free entrance, voluntary contribution).
Thought of a new word in Finnish: kolehdinkerääjäkuorolainen.
Spotted a bird in the sachristy. :D

@vrtxd@piipitin.fi I think motivation is mainly important in the beginning, to make the decision that something is actually worth an effort. After that it’s a matter of sticking to that decision which has more to do with executive function that motivation. It makes perfect sense to me that one could have tons of motivation but still not be able to act on that motivation.

A nice change to my teaching week routine-today and tomorrow I’m language coaching the Nederlands Kamerkoor on how to pronounce Finnish. It’s a professional choir, so they pick up sounds impressively fast! There’s a lot of text to go through though. They’re going to perform Eino-Juhani Rautavaara’s Vigilia. I love this piece! If you have an hour to listen to it, it won’t be a wasted hour. :)

Just to practise how to share a youtube video from a certain timestamp, hope this works as intended! Thank you everyone who gave advice. :)
Our choir concerts are usually not streamed, unlike the Sunday services. But this was a special occasion celebrating the 650th anniversary of the province of Utrecht. So a composer from the province, Joannes Tollius (ca. 1550- ca. 1620)(aka Jan Tol if we're not being fancy) from Amersfoort, "Osculetur me osculo oris sui" and "Surge, propera amica mea". Later on in the video also Händel's Utrecht Te Deum which for obvious reasons we get perform pretty regularly. :)

If there is a way to share a particular moment in a youtube video, instead of linking to the start of the video, I don't know it. But anyway, at about 1:10:30 here you can hear our choir singing some Gesualdo (a rather mild one mind you) at the service this morning, and have a look at one of the pretty windows in the Dom church. The volunteer who does the video took advantage of the fact that we sang around the baptismal font instead of where we usually stand. (I'm one of the people hidden by the chandelier)

@johncarlosbaez@mathstodon.xyz "He" and "her" are the same word, "hän", mostly used in written Finnish. So to be completely clear you have to use the persons name, or say "the woman" or "the man" or something like that anyway.
I thought of an example, imagine I was telling you about something I saw in the park. That might go something like this: "This morning in the park I saw this woman with a dog, and it, the woman, bought an icecream. Then it gave it to the dog to lick, but it ate the whole thing!
So as the story goes on I would use "it" more often because it's already clear who is doing what.

New rule for myself: from now on the bassoon wing swab and the bocal swab will never, ever, ever be left next to each other on the table. Luckily I realized quickly that I was trying to pull something much too thick through the bocal. Stopped just in time to get it out without damaging anything. 😳

Choir director let us know that the program for our next concert is too long and we wouldn’t sing the Magnificat by Roxanne Panufnik. To be honest I’m a bit relieved -it was I think the hardest piece on the program. A lovely one though.

Haven’t had enough time to play baroque bassoon lately! But today I decided to just make some time. Not sure if playing is frustrating because I just haven’t done enough of it, or because my setup isn’t optimal which makes playing harder which makes me not want to do enough of it… #baroque #bassoon #music

Choir conceet today went pretty well. Despite the absolutely terrible choir score we had for one piece, that didn't mark the time signatures of measures in the places where the choir has a rest, so we had no idea how long those rests were! I suppose the publisher thought choir singers can't count anyway and rely on the conductor for any entrance. Boo. Plus: odd choices of cue notes, and unreadably small time signatures, just to make everything more fun to read.
Music by Helmut Barbe (Unknown to me composer but a very beautiful and cool piece), Vincente Lusitano (renaissance composer who should be more well known because gorgeous music!) and Alexander Gretchaninov (Russian composer, which caused some discussion among the choir beforehand).
Extra fun was that my husband was playing celesta in the Barbe , it's nice when we have a gig together. :)
