My mom wrote this post. She once tried to cut down on pasta prep time by putting it in the water before she left for an 8 hour shift. She boils hotdogs because “It’s faster.” Just boils. She burned every pancake she ever made because she thinks max heat cooks it faster and years of failure hasn’t changed her opinion. She tried to make chicken parmigiana in the microwave, without the parmesan, then chicken was frozen. She makes kraft dinner with only margarine and won’t eat anything blue.

Ordering from Sysco is the same as going to a giant grocery store. Quality entirely depends on how much effort they put into it. That said, I still get annoyed when I order at a high end place and I can tell they used some sysco pre-made sauce instead of their own recipe. Don’t get me started on pre-packaged hollandaise, it tastes like miracle whip.

A random delivery from a place I can’t remember the name of in Vancouver. The cheese was fresh and thick, the veggies were fragrant, the sauce was sweetly herbal with a hint of red wine, the pepperoni was perfectly crispy and the dough was soft and firm in all the right ways with that just-baked-bread earthy musk. When I tried to order again they’d just shut down. That pizza was too pure for this world.

Okay, so, the instructions aren’t super clear. For a comment you click on the rainbow fediverse icon to get to the page with the right link, because the URL needs to be the commenter’s home instance. Copy/paste the URL, select “comment” and submit. For vote history, it’s just wren@lemmy.today for me, for example. Select user, submit. Votes are relevant here is a different way, without the karma. They still show support and engagement, what’s popular kind of thing. Lots of downvotes can trigger a report or bots can be made to remove comments below a threshold for review. Lemmy is big on transparency, or working toward it. Right now mods of a community can easily see who voted on every post and comment in their communities, which is helpful for tracking vote manipulation. Lemvotes is just an extra step so everyone can see it. I like it because it holds mods accountable, too, they can’t just make shit up when no one can verify it.

I disagree. I do not enjoy wearing cheap earplugs. After years of aching ears, trying every size and method, custom fitted were a pleasure to wear. Mine were paid for through an employment program. That said, there are much cheaper shaped earplugs for specific decible ranges you can get for about $15-30 in Canada, made for concerts and shows.

I don’t know specifics. He went to the doctor, they sent him to a hearing specialist, who said he’d be fine but to mind loud environmentsn for the next while (which he told me at a loud bar that night.) He mentioned ADHD and forgetting/not feeling like grabbing his ears on site when he wasn’t around tools, so they figured earbuds he could wear all day long were the best way to protect his dumbass from himself.

I bet they don’t wear ear pro at the range because they’re already deaf. Even at the most red-necking shooting parties, hurling skeets in the quarry, we’re stringent on safety and covering our damn ears. One friend of a friend refused and I was like “You either put on the ears or I will lovingly hold your head while you shoot, you pick.”

Jokes aside, I’m gonna ruin the fun here. This is real. I had a buddy temporarily loose partial hearing in one ear when scaffolding shifted next to him, the crack was so loud it hurt. He left work to get it checked out, extremely anxious because he was only 25 and a musician - and good thing he did. My dad, who worked on airplanes his whole life —one of those man’s men who doesn’t need things like gloves and goggles, well, he’s mostly deaf now and it took three years for the military to clear his doctor’s appointments and get him hearing aids. We can’t talk on the phone anymore. You can get custom fitted earplugs for specific decibel ranges now, which is what my construction buddy got. I have a pair myself for raves and concerts, and I can hear people next to me just fine. Protect your hearing, you won’t get it back.

My best guess is SEO. Journalism that mentions ChatGPT gets more hits. It might be they did use a specialist or specialized software and the editor was like “Say it was ChatGPT, otherwise people get confused, and we get more views. No one’s going to fact check whether or not someone used ChatGPT.” That’s just my wild, somewhat informed speculation.
