In the ongoing bizarreness that is #aws I closed my account, because why not. They then charge me for WAF, which I don't remember setting up. Or even know what that is.

I try to log into my account and get a blank warning box, I assume because I tried to close it.

So in the email I click the billing link and hey! I can get it, not so closed then?

I'm being charged daily for WAF, so I click on WAF to see what it is - get a "you closed your account" message. Thanks Amazon.

I'm now in a very strange limbo where my closed account is being charged daily for a service I have no idea about, I can't cancel, and can't access.

Time to face the ah, support, situation.

I've been thinking about the #eleventy to #buildawesome change a lot today. I have many thoughts so I'll try and do a blog post instead of a toot, just need to get things in order.

Are there any decent #FOSS or free note taking apps for iPad where you can handwrite with the pencil but it recognises/converts it to text?

I know it's on iPad so I assume they all have to be a subscription or something but you never know!

I finally got round to watching the first episode of #startrek Starfleet Academy today.

I stopped watching Discovery about halfway through so missed the big time jump and any explanation for what happened, so I felt like I was missing out on a few things, but aside from that it was enjoyable.

The storyline is interesting and Paul Giamatti makes a fun baddie. I'd seen a few negative online comments which basically boiled down to people being cranky that young people would be predominantly cast in a show (yes, about an academy) and the always entertaining ones about Star Trek going "woke". Sure.

But it definitely had a Star Trek feel to it that gave me the warm and fuzzies and made me want to watch more. Which reminds me I still have season 3 of #SNW to watch as well.

Still not sure I can go back to #discovery, it just wasn't that good, but I am curious about the time jump bit.

I probably put more effort into this that was strictly necessary but I've created a #geminiprotocol version of my blog site!

There are still a few things I want to tweak and it doesn't automatically build with the web version yet but it's pretty good so far.

In #eleventy I've added some new template files to build .gemini files in a new _site/gemini/ folder. It grabs the .md post files and does some work to render the pages nicely - including finding all http links and adding them to the bottom of the page, making an http link to images and list styling.

It also builds the /books pages the same as the main site and adds pagination for both.

Check it out! Gemini is a lovely and simple way of browsing sites and I'm all for it.

After seeing this post: https://fosstodon.org/@stpaultim/116139177428920542 I discovered #backdropcms. I looked at #drupal a while ago when #wordpress (enjoy hashtags?) was looking like it was going downhill but it seemed odd, and I couldn't say why. I hadn't heard of this one before, though it seems like it's been around for a while and has a good community around it. Bonus! I found it in my #yunohost server so going to take it for a spin.

Oh boy, why did I ever tinker with #AWS.

To delete a Cloudfront thing (don't care) I have to cancel the plan (free, fine, whatever) but then wait until the end of the billing cycle when the plan actually runs out to delete the thing.

I'm sure devops love using it but damn, it's unnecessarily complicated.

And that's just one thing, I have others but they don't give me a list of 'stuff I'm paying for' aside from on the billing page (no direct links to the services) so I have to find a way into each service and then figure out how to cancel/delete.

Also all that IAM crap... I get it but... Urgh.

No more AWS for me I think. Or anything more than basic server stuff ha.

I think the new paint job came up pretty good. Still have the dining to do (you can see on the ceiling where the paint stops) and I think we're going to get a new sliding door, but it's a vast improvement and much nicer to be in.

Also it's so rare to have a clean and cleared desk!

We moved into our house around 5 years ago and immediately I had to cobble my home office together so I could get back to work. It's at the far end of the dining room but pretty quiet.

We finally decided to repaint the dining room, and in turn my office. I didn't get a before photo but this photo of a bunch of my computer's will have to do. The next is the work in progress.

The walls are actually filthy, I think the previous owner smoked in this room and the house gets very dusty very quickly which doesn't play nicely with my technology and cables and stuff.

Tomorrow comes the paint (nothing fancy, just white) and maybe some furniture rearranging.
