yesterday i upgraded one real & one virtual ​:fedora:​ #kinoite from 43 to 44. they included various layered pkgs, so i suspected i might be in for a rocky process. it went seamlessly, uneventfully, boringly. that's just lovely. sunday i shall do my other real kinoite's upgrade. gosh we're so lucky to have so much #FOSS goodness ❤️🐧

Yes, we don't live in the reality where blender is fully funded by donations but dismissing the notion by saying it wont exist without bigtech is dumb. First, its an opensource project, it will live on with contributors and forks Second, There are foss projects that were literally saved by donations, Thunderbird got a second life with that little donate pop-up notification. Blender could do the same. #blender #foss #bigtech #opensource

Money is, *waves hand*, helpful; but just a thing. It's not valuable in itself, only in what things it can be transacted to get people to do for you. Your software vendor is embedding AI into your OS whether you want it or not. You do not need new hardware to escape it. Linux runs beautifully on existing machines. LibreOffice replaces Microsoft 365. Nextcloud replaces SharePoint. The open source stack is mature, capable, and puts control back in your hands. The EU Commission just created something that didn't exist before: a way to actually measure digital sovereignty. Their new SEAL framework rates cloud providers 0–4. No US hyperscaler won a lead contract. €180M goes to OVHCloud, STACKIT, Scaleway, Proximus. The quiet part: SEAL-2 minimum means your provider can't be compelled by foreign law to hand over your data. Most winners hit SEAL-3 — immune to non-EU supply chain disruption. This is procurement policy, not rhetoric. @asdasd201@lemmygrad.ml The sad reality is that you will likely have no choice but to use AutoCAD since that's what your instructor wants you to use. Even if you are able to use something free/open, there is always a chance that something in the file will render incorrectly when loaded into AutoCAD. The best thing (I think) you could do is do the assignment in both #AutoCAD, and #CAD software of your choosing be that #FreeCAD, #QCAD, #blender, #LibreCAD, or something else with which I'm unfamiliar. After class, speak with your instructor and teach them that these things can be done using #FOSS solutions as well, could be they don't even know. Worst that happens is you'll have taught yourself how to do the same thing in different software. Everything that was taught (that I can recall) in the #drafting classes I took 30 years ago can be done in any of the softwares I mentioned, but I'm sure things are a bit different these days. It's quite irresponsible of educational institutions to push students into specific software, versus teaching concepts which can be translated across multiple. Teaching students only about expensive licenced software (regardless of providing free student licences) over the concepts used to accomplish the task, promotes ignorance over education, and encourages software pirating.
