Hey everyone!

After testing Rocket.chat we decided to take a deep breath and a moment to reflect in The Gamers' Tavern's community, and by far, seems like the real "Discord-killer" isn't here (yet? ever?) and we believe this is probably due to Discord having incorporated so many functions during the years to keep the users happy and pay for Nitro that a FOSS/OSS equivalent will be hard to find, if not ever, nowadays at least.

So, we decided to keep our Discourse server up and running and slowly migrates towards it, testing more solutions for a separate voice chat and text chat (hey, someone said IRC or XMPP?!), all the while working on integrating Discourse (self-hosted in EU, of course) into our own infrastructure more and more.

We will post some feedbacks regarding Rocket.chat in our blog later, for maximum transparency.

Yesterday I finished reading "Shift", by Hugh Howey.

It's the second book in the Silo trilogy and definitely the one with the most lore-building / world-building in it, but narrated in a great way to not make it so boring.

Usually I don't like continuously shifting through different timelines but in this case I felt it was a great choice, given the whole concept.

I will shift towards another book and after that I will go for the last book in the trilogy :)

Discord shat itself with bad communication and the usual "Think of the childrens! Why no one think of the childrens?!" asking some users that they deem to be underage to verify their age with the usual self or ID.

About this new route they chose there are a few interesting facts:

they deem they can "pre-verify" an user as an adult without reading their messages - how?!;
they deem they can "identify" a sensible message or media and hide it to an underage user - which is in clearly contrapposition with the previous;
they are a US company - 'nuff said

Needless to say, we really, really don’t like this. It doesn’t align with our values and interests in keeping users safe, private and secure.
