The Discord account of a friend of mine got stolen by someone linking them a "space game." Apparently that game, when downloaded will take over your Discord account. So as usual, don't download random things. But just wanted to share this in case anyone else encounters it. #Discord

Anyone else on #Discord seeing this "network error" message when connected to a VPN? I'm seeing this on some VPN servers, whilst not on others. In the past, they've semi-blocked VPN connections such that I could connect to Discord, but could not retrieve messages in neither DMs nor servers. But, now I'm seeing this when connected to certain VPN servers. Seeing this message when connected to a VPN is new for me as of today.

Tonight's Spaces status: - Numerous stability fixes ✅ - Notifications are properly working ✅ - Admins can set admin/member role to user users ✅ There is still some notifications feature to be done... and stability improvement and I think I'll be good to merge a first preview of the Spaces in Movim 👀 Interested to try it out ? I repeat that everything done so far works on a standard #ejabberd #XMPP server without any specific hack. Ok just have to figure out what it takes to get Matrix Authentication Services up and going. Sync works, Federation works, signups, captcha, all the rest. From what I can tell MAS will at least make getting the mobile apps going less of a hassle. #matrix #discord #element

I’m an admin on a pretty large and very active Discord server but we’ve spent the weekend getting a new self hosted Matrix instance setup. Things are mostly working so far. Having some issues with device registration on mobile and user sync ATM but signups are working and the bones of the services seem to be all functional. I’ll be getting our server sync scripts running this week to start syncing the Discord and Matrix instances to fully pave the migration path. We plan on likely shutting the Discord down at the end of March if everything goes well. #matrix #discord #element

So, Discord have started to experiment the next step of their age verification: Send "age verification" data to the company Persona. Persona, in which Peter Thiel have investments. Peter Thiel is the founder of Palantir, a data and surveillance company that collaborate with USA federal agencies. Including ICE. (And their is a lot of other things to tell about Thiel.) But wait, there is more about Persona. Age verification is not en never was about protecting children. It's about mass surveillance. "Once a user verifies their identity with Persona, the software performs 269 distinct verification checks and scours the internet and government sources for potential matches, such as by matching your face to politically exposed persons (PEPs), and generating risk and similarity scores for each individual.
