Google calendar's timezone selector has always been bad. Now they changed it to have search, which is good, but it only understands cities, so you can't select UTC. How can they fuck this up so royally?

Is someone else having issues with #Positron using remote SSH? My #RStats sessions take FOR EVER to startup and the console has enormous latency and sometimes it just completely locks up and I need to close the whole session, sometimes even restart Positron completely.
Meanwhile, using R from the terminal via SSH works perfectly well. And VSCode using the normal R terminal also is working well.

I was just thinking about this stuff a few day ago. Process knowledge is also important at the national scale. A country can't just buy a bunch of books and get skills. It need to invest in people; people who learn to do stuff by doing it.
Process knowledge is also fragile. Since you can't write it down, you need a continuum of people teaching other people and it's too easy to break the chain and lose immense amounts of knowledge that then it's very hard to win back.

@gedankenstuecke Yeah. I've been warning the same leather belt for years and had a leather wallet that lasted for decades until I put it im the washer and got destroyed. That's why I'm wondering whether the long term effect of choosing a more durable (and repairable! You're right) item but potentially with a biggest initial cost for animal life balances out. Maybe quality is also an issue and I need to make sure that if I buy leather, it needs to be something really good.

What's the latest on the impact of #leather vs. no leather? I'm a #vegetarian and I tend to avoid leather shoes because I want to minimise animal deaths and suffering. But non-leather clothes still have an environmental impact and are much less durable, and a lot of leather is a byproduct of the meat industry. So I've always wondered if in a life-cycle analysis, using leather was overall better.

I kept seeing these SKILLS.md things to enhance #LLM s. I always thought that having a standard programmatic way of "teaching skills" to llms sounded smart. Today I actually looked into one of them and... it's just documentation? Just natural language description on how to do stuff? So now machines get better documentation than humans do?

I developed an #RStats package to get data from a remote service. Functions allow caching results, so that they will just return the saved files if the request is the same. I tend to be conservative and set the cache option to FALSE by default, but now I'm wondering if it would be more user friendly (and friendlier to the remote API) to set the default to TRUE.
