Individual land ownership exists as a concept in what is laughably called "Western Civilization" at least since Deuteronomy 27:17 was written, if not earlier.
However, I am curious what other options exist. Have there been agricultural societies where the land belonged to the community as a whole instead of individuals? And how did that work out for them - i.e. how did they distribute the labor and the harvests?

Ja, das verstehe ich auch so.
Grundsätzlich kann ich den Wunsch nach Selbstbestimmung hier nachvollziehen... aber ich sehe auch die große Gefahr, daß dann vielen Menschen eingeredet wird, daß ihr Leben "lebensunwert" isr und daß ihre fortdauernde Existenz eine "Belastung" für ihre Umwelt ist.
Der Spätkapitalismus versucht uns ja auch immer einzureden, daß alle strukturellen Probleme letzten Endes eine Frage der "Eigenverantwortung" sind.

Weil es mir schon von verschiedenen Leuten empfohlen wurde, habe ich mir im Rahmen des aktuellen "GM's Day Sale" #Hexxen1773 geholt.
Vieles an diesem Setting ist interessant, aber ich muss zugeben, dass mir eine der zentralen Prämissen des Settings missfällt:
Warum sind nur Frauen Hexen?
Ja, in den verschiedenen Sagen und Legenden sind die Betreiber der Hexenkünste überwiegend Frauen - aber es waren nie _exklusiv_ Frauen. Es gab auch genügend Männer, die sich dem Teufel verschrieben haben.
Und da es eine der Hauptaufgaben der Jäger (d.h. der Spielercharaktere) ist, Hexen zu töten, hat das bei mir einen etwas schalen Beigeschmack.

After 15 years of friendship, I have found that explaining neurotypical behavioral patterns and thought processes to my friend with Asperger's Syndrome is not only pretty fun, but also helps me to examine and question the thoughts and actions of myself and others - which is always useful.
Generally, our actions and decisions are based on things that make sense to us at the time. But key to developing the skill of #empathy is realizing that we all begin with different starting points - the decisions we make are shaped by different cultural contexts, life experiences, and even neurochemistry. What seems "logical" to ourselves is not necessarily true for other people.
Thus, being friends with people with different life experiences, backgrounds, and even neurotype can be very rewarding, as long as you all make an effort to understand each others' perspective.

Aus aktuellem Anlass wollte ich mal ein paar Tipps zur #Wohnungssuche in Deutschland geben. Ich kenne das Verfahren hauptsächlich aus Mietersicht, aber in den letzten fünf Jahren habe ich das auch aus Sicht eines Vermieters einer Zweizimmerwohnung kennengelernt. Vielleicht sind daher meine Erkenntnisse für manche von euch hilfreich.
Zunächst einmal sollte allen klar sein, daß der Wohnungsmarkt in Deutschland vollkommen überhitzt ist. Wenn nicht die Wohnung etwas sehr exotisches ist oder in einer sehr abgelegenen Lage ist, wird es immer deutlich mehr Kandidaten als Wohnungen geben. Beispiel: Ich habe letzte Woche Mittwoch meine Anzeige freigeschaltet, und am letzten Samstag und Sonntag 10 interessierte Parteien durch die Wohnung geführt - und es kommen immer noch weitere Anfragen.
Die Konsequenz ist, daß man die Bewerbung für eine Wohnung mit der Bewerbung für eine Einsteiger-Stelle in der Berufswelt vergleichen kann. Die Vermieter _werden_ nach Gründen suchen, um Mietinteressierte auszusieben - das ist nicht notwendigerweise Bosheit, sondern eine Konsequenz dessen, daß man so viel Auswahl hat.
Klar, man kann nicht alles kontrollieren, und Diskriminierung kann immer vorkommen. Aber was man beeinflussen kann, sollte man so gut wie möglich machen, damit die Bewerbung nicht an irgendeiner Kleinigkeit scheitert.
Wenn ihr eine Besichtigung macht, dann solltet ihr schon die Standard-Unterlagen vorbereitet haben - Mieterselbstauskunft, #Schufa-Auskunft, und Gehaltsnachweise. Ihr könnt sie entweder ungefragt vorzeigen, oder gleich im Nachgang verschicken. Das zeigt eure Eigeninitative und wie gut ihr organisiert seid - beides Sachen, die bei Mietern positiv sind.
Überlegt euch auch Gründe, warum diese Wohnung besonders gut für euch passt. Vielleicht liegt sie besonders nahe bei Familie oder Arbeitsplatz. Oder vielleicht hat sie einen großen Garten, und ihr habt viel Spaß an Gartenarbeit. Solche Punkte zeigen den Vermieter, daß ihr langfristig an der Wohnung interessiert seid. Schließlich ist eine Wohnung neu zu vermieten ein ziemlicher Aufwand, und die meisten Vermieter sind eher an langfristigen Mietbeziehungen interessiert.
Es ist auch okay, wenn ihr erwähnt daß ihr euch andere Mietwohnungen anschaut - jeder Vermieter weiß wie umkämpft der Wohnungsmarkt ist, und daß Mieter lange suchen müssen. Aber wenn euch eine Wohnung gefällt und ihr sie haben wollt, dann kommuniziert das gleich am nächsten Tag, wenn ihr noch einmal darüber geschlafen habt. Wenn ihr sagt, daß ihr noch eine Woche Bedenkzeit braucht, dann wird der Vermieter wahrscheinlich die Wohnung an jemanden anderen vergeben der entschlussfreudiger ist. Denn er wird ständig neue Anfragen von Mietinteressierten bekommen, und die die bereits gefragt haben werden auch wiederholt nachfragen, ob er eine Entscheidung getroffen hat. Desto länger er die Entscheidung vertagt, desto mehr Arbeit und Stress wird er haben.
Wie eine Bewerbung auf einen Arbeitsplatz ist eine Bewerbung auf eine Wohnung nicht unbedingt "fair". Aber wenn ihr die Motivationen des Vermieters und sein Entscheidungsverfahren besser versteht, dann erhöht ihr eure Chancen erheblich.

Paganplus is on Mastodon v4.5.7, which is fairly recent, so I am not too worried about that instance. Thefolklore.cafe on the hand was stuck on v4.2 since forever.
Still, if you back up your user data regularly, you should be regain most of your Fediverse connections quickly if your old instance goes down (although your can't take your old posts with you).

Apropos of nothing, it is a good idea to backup your user data of your #Fediverse account regularly.
It is a _particularly_ good idea if your instance hasn't been updated for a long, long time, since that's a strong hint that your admin might be MIA.
For the record, the current version of your #Mastodon instance is on the "About" page. If it is below 4.5, you should check if your admin is still active, and maybe ask them about their update plans.

Another great collection of folk tales is "Mythen und Sagen Tirols" by Johann Nepomuk von Alpenburg.
Not only are the local legends of the Tyrolean Alps endlessly fascinating, but I recognize the author for a fellow folklore enthusiast with _views_ - which he is never shy about sharing them with his readers.

This is not exclusive to the USA, by the way. In Germany, the thought process often goes no further than:
"Nazis are racist. I am not a Nazi, therefore I am not a racist!"
Which ignores that "not being a racist" is not a state of existence, but a process that you need to consciously engage with.

One of my favorite collections of German folk tales is Otto Schell's "Bergische Sagen", which covers the hill country east of the Middle Rhine.
This collection contains so many utterly bizarre supernatural phenomena that sometimes wonder what kinds of pollutants were in the local water supply.
