After having watched every single figure skating competition in the recent Olympics and some odds end ends of other sports, even curling, I am now more confident than ever to renew my longheld opinion that the most popular sport in most of western Europe, football (soccer if you will) is by far the mostest boringest pointlessest sport ever. They don't twirl, they don't jump, the music sucks, there's no glitter involved whatsoever. I don't get it.

I've re-discovered Jasper Ffordes fantastic "Thursday Next"-Series, about a literary agent working in an alternate fantasy version of Britain's Swindon in the 80's. The books are especially amazing for people who read a lot because there are sooo many literary references. They are intelligent, fun, and just the right amount of bonkers. Also shockingly contemporary because a large corporation called "Goliath" ominously controls more of their lives than people think.

...oder, ganz wilder Vorschlag, man geht halt einfach in die wunderschöne Hamburger Staatsoper, wenn man Oper sehen möchte. Noch ist sie ja nicht eingestampft, äh "umgewidmet", weil irgendein Milliardär entschieden hat, dass das 60er Jahre-Haus nicht mehr taugt und er auf den Spuren seines faschistischen Erbes skandinavisches Biedermeier in Übergröße errichten will.

Read a nice pile of various novels, gardening books, cookbooks and magazines this year, joined a bookclub and loving it, and discovered the german book podcast "Eat, Read, Sleep" - a very good year 📚 I'm reading more and more ebooks that I rent from my local library, brilliant system.
