This will probably come as no surprise to anyone, but I've been back to X because I wanted to get live updates on a certain war in the Middle East, and I now firmly believe that a large percentage of the people there are absolute idiots with an IQ level below room temperature.

If I see another "Grok is this true?" Or "Grok what does this mean?" I am going to throw the entire alphabet at everyone.

I am loving how peaceful the feeds are in xhs about the situation in Iran. Peaceful, meaning, people are not being awful degenerates wishing for the destruction of people and calling the deaths 100s children a "necessary evil". Instead the Chinese are sharing beautiful videos of Iran, interactions they had with Iranians ...just mostly humanizing rather than dehumanizing content. I am lucky I guess, xhs algorithms are very accurate and consistent so I don't get the nasty ones that crow about war. Also, their reporting and moderating systems are very excellent.

Most Chinese people on xhs are praying for peace in Iran.

Every year there's some stupid spat about Chinese New Year vs Lunar New Year. I understand the context of why China Chinese are so defensive about our new year being called Lunar New Year. I mean how would you like it if some other nation decided to rename your celebration to something more "acceptable" or "inclusive". Also, lunar new year isn't exactly accurate. If anything that should belong to the Islamic celebration of Eid.

Anyhoo, most Malaysians don't mind if you say Lunar New Year, but we've generally said Chinese New Year. After all even our officials say "Tahun Baru Cina" in their official greetings, which means, you guessed it Chinese New Year.

So when this became a big deal on Chinese social media I could only sigh. Like, can we fight about something else?

But because of what this Kim Iversen said, now I want to roll up my sleeves and side with China 🤪

Wtf, all Asians hate the Chinese? I have besties who are Indians, Malay and other races. They kinda like me as far as I can tell. Heck some of them even marry Chinese, ya know?

Apani logic??

Yet she's defending what she said in the comments?

Has she lost her marbles??

People take what she says seriously as a media figure?

First, I absolutely adore the Expanse series. Second, having been on the reception of such purity rages just because I wasn't pure enough nor do I want or even care about abandoning a platform or tech because it's evil, a Nazi bar whatever, I appreciate this.

Well, anyway. Pure platforms and tech do not exist. Shaming others for using tech you consider evil is not productive, especially since there's no black and white in the world.

Also, I use AI for my work and writing. I still post on Facebook occasionally. Hell, I promote my blog posts on Threads and X sometimes. I don't care what people say. I am moving beyond the rants and polemics.

I relate to this so much. The internet and the portals that dominate had made life hellish for creatives. That said, being an electrician is soooo cool. I did something like this in my mid thirties when I got so disillusioned with my journalism/writing career that I turned to nursing. While it didn't work out it made me realise that going all in as a creative, making my art support my life isn't for me. Now I work in tech and it supports my writing and I am happy.

The "Celebrating Flower Deities" has everything I love about Chinese culture: dances, poetry, beautiful hanfu, Chinese drama actors...but it also uses AI a lot.

As I said before, discussions around #AI in the East does not have the tang of doomerism like in the West. Instead, every industry seemed eager to find ways to in incorporate and use it to improve the industry. The entertainment industry is no different.

Rather than seek to replace humans with AI, the Chinese are asking: How can AI make us produce more, create better?

Calling "The Lychee Road" a comedy is shortchanging it. Instead it's an illustration of the last day of empire, when the whims and pleasures of the rich devour the poor and lower classes.
