maybe we need to give up on open source
the concept is great, but it's too easily exploited.
I want source code access, like in an archive, a library: members can look — but don't touch. you can borrow, but if you steal your membership will be revoked.
and the creation now happens in secret, we meet underground to conspire a design; we meet in the woods under the moonlight for a wild, naked dance of an arcane ritual; we meet in abandoned warehouses in masks and sway to the music of the (r)evolution.
no robots, no bosses allowed.
it's gonna be small, scrappy and buggy, but it will be ours.

@ana assigned female at prompt
forced feminised by a chatbot
this reminds me of that guy who outsourced the development of his Filesystem to his chatbot and got really mad when a trans woman turned it gay

@wxcafe is it just me, or does this feel oddly condescending?
if you don't know say algorithmic complexity is, you can't even be trusted to look it up, here's a Wikipedia link
but then I remember this conversation I've had 14 years ago https://github.com/igalic/blag/blob/master/contents/articles/hire-me-im-not-an-idiot/index.md so who knows

@jschauma every time a new person looks at a corner of an OS that hasn't been touched in a decade or more, we get a bug fix, and sometimes a security fix
oh, and we also get at least one more person familiar with the code, sometimes more thanks to reviewers also relearning the code

@tilton having completely ignored the industry for the past year and reading the article that spawned that comment is fucking bizarre.
can you imagine somebody like, say, Erik Naggum writing something so painfully unreflected:
It is orders of magnitude easier and cheaper to write in high-internet-volume languages like Go and Python than it is to write in Lisp. The advent of AI has converted language popularity into real dollars-and-cents-per-million-tokens cost savings.
cheaper for whom?

@wait_sasha @Daviey imagine the cloud
now scale it down to run a local community project on a spare pi.
scale goes both ways.

@Daviey @wait_sasha people who aren't on a single user instance would be shitting on the commons, so, yes, that would be a really shitty move and not just something admins need to resource throttle
plus, if you're blasting your tweet history as public posts it'll pollute the federated timeline as well
but either way, all servers with people following you would experience higher load
