All my problems would be solved if I didn't need sleep and had infinite time and infinite energy and infinite money. I'm tired of all these half-solutions which don't get to the core of the issue.

Why are Minecraft mod developers such cornballs? Why does every single major utility mod have some corny-ass name which bears no resamblance to the mod's functionality? Why the fuck is the most widely used "What am I looking at mod" called "Jade", like what does that even MEAN? Whatever happened to mods literally called "What am I looking at"? I don't want explanations — I shouldn't need a lore deepdive into the significance of a Minecraft mod so I can comprehend the name and connect it with it's purpose.

@C_Chell@equestria.social This video is mostly irrelevant. It is a pretty blatant AI generated script which explains basic linux concepts as if they are newly discovered evidence for the Biblical flood. Also feels totally unfocused and constantly condescending just as AI would write it. I like how the video concludes with "There's no answer for what user space software is part of the OS and which are just regular User Applications", which funnily enough validates the joke i was making because, yes, an OS truly is subjective to what each person wants and what the philosophy behind it is.

The meaning of "Operating System" is actually very contextual and personal:
- agerage person - bootloader into Netflix and PornHub
- gamer - bootloader into ring 0 anticheat system which probably knows your current heartrate right now
- corporation - bootloader into while loop of slack and excel and chrome
- The corporation's IT guy - "whatever I feel like dealing with and have spyware for"
- government - surveillance, control and manipulation vector
- linux user - really pretty bootloader into PornHub

Imagine growing up watching Minecraft lets plays made by people who were excited to break the game and show you what they just discovered they could and the fun and real interactions with their friends through it.

Growing up wanting to cherish that memory and do the same to others.

But the only way your dream can survive anymore is by making "PICK THE RIGHT CHEST IN MINECRAFT: GARTEN OF BANBAN, SLENDERMAN, ELSA, GRINCH" while you and your friends and FAMILY have to pretend to be excited about not being touched by Ronald Mcdonald while they are actually on their period or after little Junior just pissed on the carpet because he forgot his potty training.

An entire generation grew up wanting to become YouTubers, and some of them inevitably did, but the YouTubers they had to become to survive aren't the YouTubers they wanted to be.

The more you acknowledge what you truly don't know, the more i can trust everything you do say you know. But if you are confident of everything you are asked and everything you say and believe, i can't trust any of it because the only way someone could be so confident in everything is by never learning or fact checking.

@lainz@snug.moe In his post about using Cloudflare pages for a wedding site, he found some art he really liked and — instead of using them with credit or just asking for permission — he gave them to AI to describe and then used those descriptions to generate "a legally distinct but similar version in a watercolor style" because "I don't have to worry about using their artwork without permission since it's a freshly generated image".

I find this infinitely more offending than just using the images with credit, even without asking for explicit permissions.

I am rather surprised to see double dashes being used in place of em dashes, especially with extra space surrounding them. That's a rare writing opinion I've only seen myself do (the em dash just isn't feasibly writable on most computers, and I simply believe adding space around the em dashes is more readable and aesthetically pleasing). Though on a website you can just use —

I think software development teams should start testing their tests sometimes.

For every test you write you should need to pass an IQ test with a score of 70 or more to commit the test.

It would really go a long way to improve the quality and reliability of test code

by filtering out people like me.

Kids/Teens have shitty lives, shitty parents, shitty schools, shitty classmates, shitty friends, shitty environments and systems which prioritize them as potential customers and as machines of habit for profit at the expense of their own health and well-being. They go online. Why? Because at least a portion of stuff online doesn't suck. They become dysfunctional? Why? It must be the fault of the internet. Can't be the fault of everything horrible going on in their lives. We must protect the kids from the one sorta-tolerable thing they found by restricting it and their access to it -- as if kids haven't been experts at stealing mommy's credit card to do things they shouldn't since the invention of stores of value and currencies. A valiant use of the world's resources. An immaculate ability to observe, identify and prioritize the real issues which truly mess people up.

There is a mental affliction which I am noticing is becoming more and more prevalent which I can only describe as a “You have infinite resources, right?” mentality.

It is put on show every time you hear of a new subscription:

  • subscribe to our monthly refined assortment of chocolate bars
  • monthly refined assortment of wine
  • monthly refined assortment of nutritionally engineered food blocks so you can make up for those previous fake-food subscriptions
  • subscribe to our hardware
  • our operating system
  • our software
  • our websites
  • our creators on our website

Every time you scroll on any social media:

  • Here is why you should take on this daily side-quest which consumes 3 hours of your life so you can be a well-rounded and normal person — I am implying you are as good as lobotomized crab for not doing this during your 3 free hours from work.

You might not believe it, but people do things with their lives, and they don’t have time to learn how to compile everything from source.

This is the best greentext meme ever made. So subdue in the humor but so genius in it's execution. This perfectly sums up the entire history and spirit of this format. It's a show stopping masterpiece. Literally just pack up and go home, there is nothing more to see -- it is never getting better than this. This is the ending before the credits roll -- the ozymandias of the meme format.

This generation grew up being told everything that's wrong with the world, what is destroying us and killing us, the injustices transpiring all over, and everything that is preventing us from being happy. In turn, we project our misery onto the circumstances of the world which we have no control over. These aren't things that don't affect us personally. Often they do, and it's exactly that which gives us our threadmil: perpetually waiting for the world to fix itself so we finally have the right to be happy. There is no righteousness in being miserable because the rest of the world told you should be.

Labeling something as "romanticizing" is such anti-happiness rhetoric. Sorry, the world sucks too much and your life is too average for you to have earned the right to be happy and have hope in spite of your struggles. You should project all your misery on the injustice and imperfections of the world. "You will be happy when this gets fixed!! Just one more fix bro!!" It's possibly worse than the past generations projection of happiness on material possessions. Those generations grew up being told everything they should want and that it would make them happy — their threadmil. At least they were actually somewhat in control of achieving that stuff and could eventually come to the realization that it'e a failing strategy.
