Now all of my close friends, with whom I chat regularly, are on #xmpp! I'll be trying to get some more people. I had to distribute the Conversations app directly to them as they were unlikely to install "one more app" (viz. f-droid) to install Conversations.

I try not to mention the word "xmpp", instead I say "Just install Conversations". As hearing the word "xmpp" will probably scare them as well.

How do people even use windows and modern web (without ads blockers etc.)? I was on a friend's computer today experienced it. Every link I click opens 2 new tabs to display me ads. Macfee (whatever) antivirus software starts scanning the computer randomly popping a window and tells me to buy premium. It's chaos everywhere!

To some GNU's vision of free software may seem like utopia. But when GNU was launched the vision was much more achievable. Companies weren't making hardware that would need to non free firmware, websites weren't trying to send software to other people's computers (websites didn't exist then).
