IANAL but... US Supreme Court today announced they declined to hear a case about AI. The USPTO office had declared previously that anything that came out of one of these GenAI tools in response to a prompt (like LLMs, like Claude or ChatGPT or Gemini) could NOT be copyrighted. Whether text, code, art, etc.
The case was a challenge to that. since SCOTUS declined, it means the USPTO ruling stands. which means all you fuckers who have used GenAI to give you text/code/art are fucked. lolololol
a win for human labor talent and our professional craft. BOOYA!
They are automated ripoff machines anyway. Fuck em
might be a poison pill too for compatibility with GPL or some other FOSS licenses. hopefully more legal analysis comes out soon on downstream implications
