There is the thought experiment of "What if Jefferson Davis had been elected President of the Union?" alternate history kinds of things. Seems like the 14th Amendment was designed to prevent exactly that.

Heh, I missed these details when this story broke. So much of every day activities are just logged and stored. It is always sobering when I see just how little is actually "under the radar." It is really just a matter of nobody is motivated to look.
That said, it does amaze me that people to are planning to commit crimes don't seem to think about this ahead of time.
