Back in the day, in a time when I was a young, and could maybe even have been considered innocent, boy, they were considered pop punk, along with the likes of the Offspring and Blink 182. Much to the dismay of old school 70/80's punks, who found them to be more pop than punk. If it helps: think the Ramones, but a tad slower on the tempo and a more poppy less raw sound.

@blp @chefraven This is the one I don't get. Hazelnuts are overrated and no amount of cocoa is going to cure that. To me it feels the Amercan fascination with Nutella stems from the fact they're just not used to better stuff. It's just so bland.
I don't like it much either, but if I have to go with something like this I'd go with Duo Penotti. Which is similar but is half cocoa and half vanilla flavored sections, for some much needed variation.
But that's just me though.

@blp @tshirtman I don't think we have any particular feelings because we take it for granted. Calvé, a brand of peanutbutter, used to, and probably still does, advertise with the slogan "Calvé, who hasn't grown up with it". And it might not have been Calvé, but we all have had it at some point in our youth. If not as a bread topping, then as a sauce with fries, fried rice or saté. Colonizing Indonesia being the source of the two latter ones and propably the pervasiveness of the stuff in general.
