I think the funniest was when I got an environmental scientist to do a strong assist on a fake research paper on the effects that an eldritch abomination had on the surrounding ocean geology. Only excerpts made it into the final book, but the entire thing is beautiful.

Someone was raving about Notes From a Regicide by Isaac Fellman and I hopped on to say that this was one of my favourite books of last year. Besides being a moving story about trans joy, art, and revolution, there's such an alien, archaic stylization in the prose that conveys the sense of a very different time and place in a way that SFF writers should take note of.

This is rather impossible to write in Ian's POV since he will not admit that he lies to himself, even in narration. But among other things, he's lied to himself that it's worth it to break Maya's heart, it's worth it to lose Jonah, that Cal made his own doomed choices, and that his current plan to betray his separatist allies won't result in a gruesome amount of deaths.

I don't find endings that hard; with most things I've written, I have at least a vague sense of how it ends (yes, including the trilogy). It's more lining up all the pieces to get to the ending.

I mostly do, because my other job is as a cover designer and I publish with small presses who do a terrible job if left to their own devices (I have stories). I advise authors not to do their own covers even if they have the talent, as distance from the story is important but anyone better than me also costs more. Anyway, hire me!
