Solo il Cile sembra essere sulla buona strada per raggiungere il traguardo di una riduzione del 50% del rischio pesticidi entro la data limite. Senza cambiamenti significativi ai sistemi agricoli mondiali, la meta sembra difficile da conseguire. Per analizzare il rischio globale legato all’uso dei pesticidi, i ricercatori hanno studiato i dati sull’uso di pesticidi dal 2013 al 2019 in 65 paesi, integrando informazioni sulla tossicità di 625 pesticidi rispetto a otto gruppi di specie. Sorprendentemente, solamente il Cile sta riuscendo a rispettare l’obiettivo dell’ONU, mentre altri Paesi come Stati Uniti, Brasile, Cina e India sono responsabili di oltre la metà della tossicità totale applicata a livello globale. Le scoperte suggeriscono che il rischio globale è dominato da pochi pesticidi altamente tossici, il che offre un’opportunità per le nazioni di ristabilire la rotta verso il raggiungimento degli obiettivi di riduzione dei rischi. To analyze the global risk associated with pesticide use, researchers studied pesticide use data from 2013 to 2019 in 65 countries, integrating information on the toxicity of 625 pesticides versus eight species groups. Surprisingly, only Chile is succeeding in meeting the UN goal, while other countries such as the United States, Brazil, China, and India are responsible for more than half of the total toxicity applied globally. The findings suggest that global risk is dominated by a few highly toxic pesticides, which offers an opportunity for nations to re-establish course towards achieving risk reduction goals.
