Mobian's answer to age attestation/verification laws: they'll do what upstream Debian does (Debian doesn't have an official stance yet) Btw, if you're interested in the answer of other distros, check out my "Linux/BSD age attestation/verification tracker": https://odysee.com/@fossery-tech:4/Linux-BSD-age-attestation-verification-tracker:7 #AgeVerification #AgeAttestation #Mobian #MobileLinux #LinuxMobile #Linux #FosseryTech

This week's Linux and FOSS news: LINUX NEWS Ubuntu, Fedora, Linux Mint Eye Age Verification Amid California Law Backlash: https://9to5linux.com/ubuntu-fedora-linux-mint-eye-age-verification-amid-california-law-backlash (Seems like a new era has begun, even Linux isn't fully immune to the invasion of digital freedom, but we're fine for the most part, we can just lie about our age because we aren't required to provide photo ID or selfie unlike on some of the normie platforms. And even if another law comes out requiring Linux too to ask for a personal id, they can't do much to actually enforce it on the thousands of volunteers) (Flathub and Snap Store having to comply is a much bigger deal though, since those are corporate entities (or at least it's planned to become one in case of Flathub, I wonder if they still stick to their plans after all of this), they might actually be forced, to query age brackets from the OS for now, but pretty likely to ask for photo ID or selfie in the future when the other age verification laws currently pending (Texas, New York, Brazil, Canada, etc.) will be accepted. Of course, it can also be circumvented by using the repos of a distro which doesn't comply, download app binaries from source code repo Releases page, compiling from source (at least from repos hosted on Codeberg, GitHub/Microsoft might comply), downloading from AppImageHub (which is community-maintained afaik) etc., but it still sucks to lose two of the largest software repos (even if I'm not a fan of Snap Store and Snap in general for "ideological" reasons)) Linux Mint shows off its new lock screen/screensaver: https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2026/03/linux-mint-cinnamon-lock-screen-screensaver Arch Linux Releases March 2026 ISO: https://debugpointnews.com/arch-linux-iso-refresh-march-2026/ AerynOS update boosts atomic update speed and adds WiFi-friendly installs: https://alternativeto.net/news/2026/3/aerynos-update-boosts-atomic-update-speed-and-adds-wifi-friendly-installs/ Say goodbye to Microsoft Windows 11 and hello to Nitrux Linux 6: https://betanews.com/article/say-goodbye-to-microsoft-windows-11-and-hello-to-nitrux-linux-6/ Bazzite gets a big update with KDE Plasma 6.6, Mesa 26.0.1 and more: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2026/03/bazzite-gets-a-big-update-with-kde-plasma-6-6-mesa-26-0-1-and-more/ (more Linux and FOSS news in comments) #WeeklyNews #News #Linux #LinuxNews #AgeVerification #LinuxMint #FosseryTech

We at Fossery Inc. believe that we must protect minors, who are constantly faced with age inappropriate content on the Internet. They are our future, we must protect them from the dangers of the Internet in our digital age. Starting from today, FosseryWeb will require providing a government ID or selfie to access some of the content on the site, to verify you are an adult. We invite you to help fighting for this noble goal. https://fosseryweb.codeberg.page/ https://fosseryweb-min.codeberg.page/ We'll ensure the safety of your data, we promise! We won't sell your data to any 3rd parties, other than some trusted partners. #ProtectChildren #AgeVerification #FosseryWeb #FosseryWebMin #FosseryTech

Dash to Dock just broke after the recent update, auto-hide doesn't always work. Quite annoying when the dock covers up the bottom of windows. But whatever, I uninstalled it. I plan to move to the tiling WM world anyways in the summer (because I want auto-tiling, which is only available on GNOME, KDE and COSMIC among the DEs afaik, but all will be Wayland-only soon, and I still need X11 because of a few minor things, although there's Sonic DE but who knows how much time it will take to arrive to Debian Stable, and I don't want to distrohop, also, I noticed some lag on GNOME recently, and some freezing once or twice, maybe my laptop is aging. KDE isn't more lightweight either, COSMIC is lighter, but it isn't as mature yet, it may also get heavier later on, as more things will be added), when I'll have more time to configure stuff, research how to do stuff and set up everything how I want it to work, etc., so it's time to slowly transition to that workflow anyways. (Phew, what a long sentence lol) I just use the built-in search of GNOME, press Super key and type the name of the program, the same way I'll probably do on a tiling WM. Actually I'll might also change my habits to hold Super key to drag windows, instead of grabbing their header. It's like when Windows users are told to try out programs which are also available on Linux, before actually switching to Linux lol. #TilingWM #DashToDock #Linux #GNOME #FosseryTech

A short introduction:

I’m an introvert, antisocial tech guy 😅 I like to use FOSS software wherever possible. My family considers me a tech nerd, I consider myself a tech noob.

Hobbies: web dev (FosseryWeb), running, kayaking, listening to music (mainly electro), watching tech, gameplay and Backrooms videos.

Age: twenties

Languages: 🇭🇺 (native) / 🇬🇧 (took language exam but I feel like I still suck at it sometimes lol)

LINUX JOURNEY I’m a seasoned distrohopper, started on Linux Mint, went to Kubuntu, Ubuntu, Manjaro, Garuda, Zorin OS, Fedora, LMDE and finally Debian. Also had/have Nobara and PeppermintOS as secondary systems. As for DE, GNOME is my (almost) all-time favorite, tried out Xfce, KDE and Cinnamon, but always returned to GNOME because it’s the most comfortable to me (might also try out COSMIC) On mobile (PinePhone) I went from Manjaro Plasma to Arch Plasma/Phosh, and now I’m on posmarketOS Phosh

MY STANCE ON PRIVACY I care about my privacy, although I don’t have the highest threat model, like to keep balance between privacy and convenience (although convenience is a bit of a subjective thing, some might consider right clicking to copy username then password from KeePassXC inconvenient, I don’t lol).

PROGRAMS I USE Favorite programs:

  • LibreWolf
  • OBS Studio
  • Krita
  • KeePassXC
  • FreeTube
  • yt-dlp
  • Fluent Reader
  • Haruna
  • Joplin
  • Anki

Other programs I use:

  • Brave (for websites that don’t work in Firefox based browser - shame on those web devs - btw I provide support for all major browser engines on FosseryWeb)
  • GNOME Boxes
  • Pulsar
  • Gajim
  • Flatseal
  • Warehouse
  • Portmaster
  • Solanum
  • Switcheroo
  • Ear Tag
  • Warp (the FOSS, GTK-based file transfer app, not the proprietary terminal emulator of course)

On mobile:

  • Amberol
  • Exercise Timer
  • CoreArchiver
  • Angelfish
  • Kumo
