@dfx@techhub.social It shocks me that there are groups of #sysadmin that still have to administer to #windows #311 machines, and manage them (mainly point of sale machines from my understanding), but still. Blows the mind.

Uma coisa que me deixa muito inquieto é a quantidade de tecnologias interessantes e abertas (ou relativamente abertas) que terminam nichadas. Com o #Windows perdendo protagonismo, eu genuinamente espero que a transformação se aprofunde. Para mim, a convergência do #Android só vai aumentar. Como comentei dias atrás, estou utilizando um tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ como meu principal computador portátil. Para um sistema com 8 GB RAM, a experiência desktop é bastante satisfatória. E o gerenciamento de janelas é extremamente versátil. Na outra ponta, o #Linux está cada vez mais fácil. Não só mais fácil, mas ficou mais encouraçado para ser instalado com menos riscos, mesmo para usuários que precisam fazer experimentos. O Silverblue é inquebrável. A lista de "boas práticas" é muito curta: layering do mínimo do mínimo, Flatpak para o resto, AppImage para exceções e qualquer uso baseado em pacotes e distribuições quebráveis passa para o Distrobox com Boxbuddy. Recriar um pedaço minúsculo baseado em Distrobox é brincadeira de criança. O sistema-base é resiliente. E tuddo isso se soma a nuvens (privadas e particulares) e Wine/Proton cada vez mais fortes. Futuro é SaaS e SL/CA.

Let's take #windows11 as an example. I'd say its a victim of #ensloppification since #ai is the main contributor of making it worse and worse by forcing it into and even allow it to write code used in #windows. In other terms like privacy or performance it always was garbage by design, so hard to put it into #enshittification (making it worse there too to say) category. That said previously calling it a victim is quite an odd thing to say...

@winniehell@mastodon.de Das Upgrade von #Windows 10 auf #Windows11 hat den Laptop meiner Mutter bis zur Nutzlosigkeit verlangsamt. Nun nutzt sie seit einem halben Jahr #Kubuntu auf dem Ding und freut sich, keinen Elektroschrott entsorgen zu müssen. #Linux

Die Spieledateien wurden so gepatched, dass ein Betrieb auf aktuellen Betriebssystemen möglich ist, Seitenverhältnisse jenseits von 4:3 möglich sind (ja, auch HD/2k/4k) und statt den offiziellen, abgeschalteten Epic-Servern alternative Listen für Multiplayer genutzt werden.
