#enshittification we współczesnych rekrutacjach: Ogłoszenie "oh so pro" i "flexible hybrid model" a rekruterka zamiast pytać o stanowiskowe szczegóły pyta o moje podejście do bezpieczeństwa informacji i okazuje się że jest "hybrid mode" ale już nie taki "flexible": cztery dni z biura, jeden z domu, nie w każdy tydzień. Rekrutacja na śniadanie odbębniona, czas na drugą kawę.

Let's take #windows11 as an example. I'd say its a victim of #ensloppification since #ai is the main contributor of making it worse and worse by forcing it into and even allow it to write code used in #windows. In other terms like privacy or performance it always was garbage by design, so hard to put it into #enshittification (making it worse there too to say) category. That said previously calling it a victim is quite an odd thing to say...

Tak wczoraj obejrzałem relację Kuby Klawitera i przeczytałem relację Macieja Gajewskiego z wydarzenia Samsunga i Samsung, w imię wygody, zacznie zbliżać ludzi do intelektualnych ameb, a zarazem zacznie ich zamykać w cyfrowej wersji "Roku 1984": "Now Nudge, czyli funkcja, która analizuje to, co dzieje się na ekranie, i podpowiada kolejne kroki. Samsung twierdzi, że to „proaktywna pomoc”, ale w praktyce to coś w rodzaju inteligentnego asystenta, który nie czeka aż go o coś poprosisz. Jeśli piszesz na WhatsAppie o spotkaniu, telefon zasugeruje skrót do kalendarza albo od razu zaproponuje pierwszy wolny termin. Jeśli ktoś poprosi cię o zdjęcia z premiery Galaxy S26 w San Francisco, Now Nudge wyświetli skrót do Galerii z filtrem ustawionym na zdjęcia z tego miejsca. To działa zaskakująco płynnie. Nie ma tu poczucia, że telefon „podsłuchuje” - raczej że wreszcie rozumie kontekst. Oczywiście, to funkcja, która będzie budzić dyskusje o prywatności, ale Samsung zapewnia, że większość analizy odbywa się lokalnie na urządzeniu." Dodajmy do tego zapędy Google'a co do zamknięcia Androida, brak możliwości alternatywnego softu i olbrzymie apetyty firm na dane. Zastanawiam się tylko, kiedy Samsung zacznie wprowadzać subskrypcje na "możliwości". Ludzie korzystający z domyślnie skonfigurowanego Windowsa są "cooked". Patrząc na średnią wieku ludzi którzy korzystają z Facebooka, to w przeciągu 10-15 lat to będzie interaktywny cmentarz (przynajmniej w zachodniej Europie i US) i chyba Meta tu wyczuła zysk: załóżmy że umiera bliska Ci osoba i dzięki AI możesz "rozmawiać" z nią, bo AI nauczyła się stylu rozmowy a na podstawie aktywności tego co ta osoba lubi. I believe email is the ugly stepchild of the Internet. It has always sucked, been glitchy, and had so much spam, cons and fake offers, it is a joke to use. Now, the gremlins running "Big Email" somehow think I sell mailing lists, because all of the sudden I am getting 5-10 requests a DAY to sell mailing lists. But the "from" addresses do not jive with the signature, so it is just another obvious scam. This all started with AOL's "You've Got Mail!" chime back in the day. #enshittification

@todd@social.lol @petebrown@social.lol There are *some* worthwhile uses of AI such as analysing satellite images to rapidly identify areas of active deforestation. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kensilverstein/2024/03/13/ai-and-satellites-fight-climate-change-and-restore-rainforests/ However, these useful applications of AI are insignificant compared with vast numbers of trivial uses of AI. If you are artistically challenged is it really important to you to create a picture of a unicorn wearing a tutu while drawing money out of a cash point? If you are incapable of writing an email response then perhaps you should quit your job to make way for somebody who could give a fuck. And no, I don't need the LinkedIn AI goblin to help me format my post and suggest an alternative word for #enshittification .

@blackwolf@meow.social I just got my band set up on a #selfhosted #Matrix / #Element. This is controversial for a number of reasons - but I'm comfortable doing the grunt work to make it happen in a way I can live with. For my non-techie friends coming over, it's close enough and they picked it right up. Our needs are basic and are covered. I realise this will not fit everyone's needs, and it's a sprawling project choked with #enshittification at the moment, but if you can sift down through it all, you might find something that works. (Not very encouraging - I know. I'm sorry - it's a little dire out there.) Another alternative that I run is #xmpp. It's less like discord than most Matrix clients, but it's fast and light - time tested and has e2ee. There is also #NextCloud Talk. I don't use it much, but it works as well as xmpp or matrix in my experience.
