When I was a kid and complained the ice cream was cold, they laughed at me. When I fought my mom putting on tights, she would get exasperated. When I "went into a sulk" over a change of plans, they said it wasn't a big deal and I should just get over it. I spent years feeling like my body was overreacting to things other people brushed off. It made more sense when I realised most of my rules about what is and is not 'safe' were written in childhood. Of course that stuff is still affecting you. I remember sitting in the car with my mom in late high school, crying in a rare moment of emotional overflow, begging her to explain why I didn’t have friends, why the other kids didn’t treat me the same, what was wrong with me. It took 2 more decades for me to understand why I was different.
