Now that BC is going to permanent daylight saving time, when will Ontario. “Although Premier Doug Ford’s government passed legislation in 2020 to end the biannual changing of clocks, it stipulated a requirement for co-ordination with Quebec and New York.” So what’s stopping them? https://ottawacitizen.com/news/daylight-saving-time-ontario

“Under the agreement, projects that fall under Alberta's jurisdiction would rely on the provincial environmental and impact assessment process. If projects include federal work or are on federal land, Ottawa would blend Alberta's process into the federal review, if applicable.”

What can possibly go wrong??

“The Globe and Mail first reported Thursday that the province is exploring the idea of creating a new island that could be the site for the new convention centre.

Ford last week complained that the Metro Toronto Convention Centre is too small, dated and impractical and said the lack of a larger space is costing the city major events.”

Is Doug trying to compete against Trump’s Big Beautiful Ballroom™?

“The press secretary for Education Minister Paul Calandra confirmed on Wednesday that the ministry is working to make report cards available in paper format as well, ‘so families have simple access to their child’s progress.’”

Doug brought paper bags back to the LCBO so why not paper report cards to schools.

Ever get the feeling there’s some donations to the Ontario PC party being made by paper companies?

UCP policy apparent in the Alberta budget — if you don’t name it, it must not exist:

“Costs associated with drought conditions cost more than $3 billion last year, a significant part of the $4.1 billion spent on disaster relief — although the budget does not mention climate change.“

I wonder where Conservative MP Garnett Genuis draws his inspiration from?

“Antifa has become a fixation for U.S. President Donald Trump, and a lightning rod for right-wing websites and commentators, who depict the counter-protesters as violent mobs.”

Andrew Coyne reveals in the Globe and Mail the conclusion both Danielle Smith and Pierre Poilievre have come to:

“By a miraculous coincidence, both leaders have lately hit upon a solution to their respective problems. And would you believe it, the solution is in each case exactly the same: blame immigrants.”

“Toronto's infrastructure committee has referred a report to city council that says it could take 13 years and approximately $52 million to install traffic calming measures in the wake of the provincial government's decision to remove speed cameras in Ontario.”

Doug Ford saved speeding drivers from a ‘tax grab’ by municipalities and spread the cost of trying to reduce speeding to all taxpayers, including those that don’t drive.

Well done, Doug!

“Why is Poilievre’s eruption of concern about refugee health benefits and deportations a tell? Because right-of-centre politicians who are vulnerable and bleeding support — both inside and outside their parties — often try to whip up hysteria about immigration as a way of diverting attention from their own weaknesses.”

Poilievre’s wife came with her family to Canada as refugees in 1995. The Interim Federal Health Program he’s so concerned about has existed since 1957 so they benefited from it.

The Harper Government™ revised it in 2012 (restored in 2016 by Trudeau) restricting or denying access to health-care coverage, specifically to refugee claimants. Good thing they didn’t come then.

@chris@socialbc.ca In a G&M article two economist types approve of the plan. “Our research outlining experiences from leading EV‑adopting countries shows that mass uptake hinges on two conditions: the availability of reliable, convenient charging infrastructure and a meaningful narrowing of the price gap between EV and internal‑combustion alternatives. When policies support these conditions and push EV sales beyond a critical threshold, adoption accelerates rapidly along an S‑curve, driven by peer effects and network spillovers.” They point out one of the drivers: “Consumers delay EV purchases without chargers, while investors delay charger deployment without sufficient EV demand, trapping markets below the adoption tipping point.” Norway’s increase in EV chargers over the past ten years (see my earlier post) was no doubt a factor in the critical mass of increased EV sales there. It’s the American car companies that are holding back on EV choices so let other countries build here. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/commentary/article-electric-vehicle-ev-auto-industry-carney-china/

Day two for the Melania movie in Ottawa. Not a hit for date night: Landmark Kanata 12:25 - 7 3:15 - 4 6:40 - 5 9:15 - 2 Note that since the beginning of the week the two seats at the extreme right end of the front row (the worst viewing positions possible) have been unavailable and are likely not sold to customers. Landmark Orleans 1:20 - 6 4:10 - 2 5:30 - 0 10:15 - 0 Note that the first two and second two showings are in different theatres. In the first two showings, two seats at the extreme right were unavailable since the beginning of the week so likely not sold to customers. Scotiabank 1:50 - 0 4:30 - 0 7:10 - 0 9:40 - 3 The east end continues to snub it. #MelaniaMovie #Ottawa @ottaross@mastodon.social
