“Nahmint" is an anglicized word from First Nations Nuu-cha-nulth dialets that means something to the effect of “big fish”.
As recently as 100 years ago, the Nahmint river and lake were known to host the very largest specimens of Chinook (King/Spring) Salmon on Vancouver Island. Often over 50lbs.
Today, that river no longer has a salmon run of any size.
And the old growth forests that supported those fish are being logged.
