"Medical misdiagnosis costs hundreds of billions of dollars each year in the U.S., a financial burden that quietly drains household finances—especially for women, who are more likely to face years of repeat appointments, tests, and prescriptions before getting the right answer. For many, this means hundreds or thousands of dollars in extra bills each year, often for care that doesn’t resolve their symptoms." https://www.newsweek.com/medical-misdiagnosis-costs-billions-women-often-pay-more-11881343 #healthcare #misdiagnosis #MedicalErrors #disabilities

"When it comes to prescription drugs, the Inflation Reduction Act may be best known for giving the federal government the authority to directly negotiate prices on behalf of people with Medicare. But a less-publicized measure written into the 2022 law could turn out to be more impactful. It’s the annual cap on out-of-pocket spending for medication, which went into effect in 2024." https://undark.org/2026/04/29/drug-costs-2022-law/ #healthcare #medicare #aging #PrescriptionDrugs #DrugPrices #DrugCosts #CostsOfCare

The AI RoboDoctor Will See You Now A Harvard-led study just dropped a result that will make every #ER doctor’s stethoscope twitch. In a head-to-head against attending physicians at a Boston hospital, #OpenAI’s o1-preview reasoning model diagnosed patients more accurately at the moment of triage, just when information is sparse, time is short, and getting it wrong can kill someone. https://bit.ly/4n5bf9t #Healthcare #emergencymedicine #AI #artificialintelligence

The antibiotic, augmentin, according to whatever research has been done, either kills gut bacteria that helps maintain healthy estrogen levels or is an anti-estrogen, which makes hormonal birth control ineffective. They won't say it, but it seems to also adversely affect HRT. That may lead to trouble. And there seems to be little, if any, interest in finding out more about it. Until they do, it is probably a Real Good Idea to avoid augmentin, IMO. (This message brought to you by an overall bad experience with augmentin.) #WomensHealth #TransHealth #Healthcare

"In 2023, Florida lawmakers unanimously approved expanding KidCare to close the gaps for families like Lafortune’s, raising the eligibility threshold so that coverage would extend to more than 40,000 children. Days : Hours : Minutes : Seconds We tried our best :'( April’s basic necessities were not fully met. The goal was $625, but only $440 of that was met. The minimum for April was $375, but only $190 was received for April essentials. The rest of that $440 covered overdue March costs and groceries for the first weeks of April. Since April’s overdue utilities and internet were already handled, the remaining $185 is the groceries gap. That shortfall now carries into May. Total needed: $560 🗒️ Breakdown: $185 — April groceries gap carrying into May $375 — May basic necessities • $250 groceries • $90 utilities + water • $35 internet + phone data Monthly pledges are preferred due to disability and the constraints that come with it. However, one-off support also helps greatly. Aside from Ko-fi, other support options and social profiles are here: https://wrzky.com/links Support keeps this work alive. Healthcare, Giuliano (UGL) “Supportive of the new role of general practitioners. Their contribution is fundamental to making Community Centers operational.” UGL Salute expresses a favorable opinion on the guidelines for the reform of territorial medicine presented by Minister Schillaci, which provide for a new structure for family doctors between reformed contract healthcare and voluntary dependence to make Community Houses operational. The National Secretary of UGL Salute, Gianluca Giuliano, stated: “We welcome this reform positively because there is no more time to lose. The concrete risk is to see Community Houses remain empty without the necessary staff. The transition to a remuneration linked to health objectives and the obligation of hours in the new structures is a necessary challenge to strengthen primary care and territorial continuity, but we must ensure that this model is truly feasible and sustainable. It is fundamental to value the role of the family doctor to make this profession attractive again to young people, thus filling the serious personnel shortages, there are currently more than 5,700 units, which afflict the territory and guaranteeing that Community Houses are not only an organizational objective but the real place of care for citizens and chronic patients.” UGL Salute will continue to monitor to ensure that the decree guarantees the full operationality of the system and the protection of all professionals involved. #Healthcare #Giuliano #CommunityCenters #UGLSalute #Schillaci #CommunityHouses #GianlucaGiuliano https://www.iltempo.it/general/2026/04/24/news/sanita-giuliano-ugl-favorevoli-al-nuovo-ruolo-dei-medici-di-famiglia-fondamentale-loro-apporto-per-rendere-operative-le-47411974/
