Another newsletter from @mackayim2022@mastodon.social where he looks at a UK study on health workers who reported 3 #covid cases, and their symptoms. Interesting possible lessening of symptoms with each subsequent infection, and let's hope that equates to those of us who are vaxxed and still novid! Ian is very clear in his analysis, with great graphics. A very accessible read, give it a try if you can. https://virologydownunder.com/asymptomatic-acute-and-persistent-covid-19-symptom-changes-over-the-course-of-three-infections/ #ID #PublicHealth

I'm not in #publichealth, but I don't see why person-to-person transmission of disease can't be eliminated. Seems we just lack the willpower. Airborne disease would be easiest, via ventilation, filtration, masks, isolation, and vaccination. We were on track to eradicate polio, but thanks to the work of Elon Musk and RFK, we have likely set back the cause decades. Ending HIV transmission seems possible via education, PrEP, and early detection, but I can't find much online. https://www.cdc.gov/ehe/php/about/goals.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eradication_of_infectious_diseases

Health policy clash on prime time TV. After Robert F. Kennedy Jr. warned on Fox News that Americans should be “suspicious” of any food that comes in a package, former White House cardiologist Jonathan Reiner pushed back: “Don’t be suspicious just because food is sold in a package. Read the label.” Reiner — who previously treated Dick Cheney — also criticized RFK Jr.’s recent comments (including remarks on Theo Von’s podcast), saying they raise concerns about his leadership of U.S. health policy. Food advice, personal admissions, and growing scrutiny — all playing out in public. #HealthPolicy #RFKJr #PublicHealth https://www.rawstory.com/rfk-jr-2675271786/

At least 20 students at Ave Maria University in Florida now have confirmed measles infections. Florida has the fourth most measles cases so far in 2026, with 21 confirmed. South Carolina has by far the most (540, 920 if you count those still sick from 2025), followed by Utah (48) and Arizona (34), with those three states experiencing ongoing outbreaks that began in 2025. At least 19 people have been hospitalized in S. Carolina during the current outbreak, with an untold number of patients suffering from measles-related encephalitis 95% are unvaccinated or have an unknown vaccine status https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/measles/campus-measles-outbreak-grows-florida #measles #vaccines #antivax #rfkjr #publichealth

Hi! Jennifer Hamilton here, formerly of med-mastodon.com. That server shut down suddenly. If you followed me before for my toots about #vaccines, #PublicHealth, #FamilyMedicine, my gripes about #ElectronicMedicalRecords #EMR, or even just a few #caturday pictures and chats about bicycling, I'm on mstdn.science now. The old #MedMastodon went down suddenly in the last week of December 2025, and I don't have a list of my old followers. Please boost this so they can find me!
