Medical journals start to provide images of #measles again. Can anyone think of a reason for this? https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMicm2514397

NEW: South Carolina, which doesn’t require hospitals to disclose measles-related admissions, has reported only 20 such hospitalizations since Oct. 2. That leaves doctors with an incomplete picture of how the outbreak is affecting the community. https://www.propublica.org/article/south-carolina-measles-hospital-admissions?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=propublica-mastodon-post&utm_content=2-20 #News #SouthCarolina #Measles #Health #HealthCare

Measles and Immune Amnesia Yes, measles can compromise the immune system for up to 3 years. It happened to me. No one is talking about this in relation to measles, but they should. It's important. #measles #immunesystem vaccine https://asm.org/articles/2019/may/measles-and-immune-amnesia

Quick reminder to us GenXers or older - "If you were born before 1970 and haven't had #measles, mumps or rubella (german measles) or vaccines...you can ask your GP for MMR vaccine." We didn't all catch this stuff when we were littlies, so we're not all protected! https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/mmr-vaccine/

At least 20 students at Ave Maria University in Florida now have confirmed measles infections. Florida has the fourth most measles cases so far in 2026, with 21 confirmed. South Carolina has by far the most (540, 920 if you count those still sick from 2025), followed by Utah (48) and Arizona (34), with those three states experiencing ongoing outbreaks that began in 2025. At least 19 people have been hospitalized in S. Carolina during the current outbreak, with an untold number of patients suffering from measles-related encephalitis 95% are unvaccinated or have an unknown vaccine status https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/measles/campus-measles-outbreak-grows-florida #measles #vaccines #antivax #rfkjr #publichealth

Oh, no! CNN video of the visits by two Congresspeople to the facility showed the Congressmen sharing info from the #Dilley child psychologists that "many" of the children at the facility were "sleeping a lot." The facility psycholgist attributed it to depression. But video of the five-year-old #LiamRamos -- taken while he was still being held at the facility-- showed a child who was not merely sleeping, but was nearly unconscious. He was non-responsive, either due to being drugged or feverish. FYI: A common symptom of #Measles -- a symptom which happens prior to any skin rash-- is usually days of fever, excessive sleep, and general lethargy. (I'm old enough to remember the Measles.) Today, that tired-eyed five-year-old was on a plane and taken back to #Minnesota . I'm very glad he's gone home, but I would bet good money that entire plane was exposed to Measles. #Vaccination #Vaccines #DilleyTexas #DilleyDetentionFacility #MeaslesOutbreak https://youtu.be/tMR_XPiUvPw?si=yeAPSEJZ8OMiBkGS

The U.K. has lost its measles elimination status, a designation given when there is no sustained transmission of the disease for a year. Last year saw more than 1,000 cases and in 2024, there were 3,600. Vaccination rates are also below the 95% required to achieve herd immunity. Here's more from @BBCNews@flipboard.com. https://flip.it/._AFrR #Health #Medicine #Science #Measles #UnitedKingdom #UK #Vaccination
