All this comment has done is shown that you haven't listened to anything I've said.

You don't really understand LLMs either for that matter.

Do you think that "ownership of a story" is not a concept created by capitalism for the purpose of financializing human creativity?

Because I have a few oral traditions to sell you if you think otherwise.

If I create a story, the idea that you should not be able to retell it because I own it and I am granted a monopoly on it, is an inherently capitalist concept.

By the way, if you want to have an actual conversation, I recommend you don't begin by calling my position "absolutely incorrect, immoral, and unethical" and "idiotic". Because if you're opening with that, then you really suggest that there is no point in me continuing a discussion with someone who has a firmly closed mind, and someone who isn't interested in a discussion.

It's doubly so because you have ended with a straw man...because I certainly didn't say anything you claimed. Plagerism is not what LLMs do, nor have I proposed that (or anything even remotely like it).

I disagree that these things are intrinsically linked.

And more, the "steal the work of others" is an inherently capitalist concept.

But there really no point in arguing over it I feel.

@csgraves @juergen_hubert and why do you equate LLMs, AI, and capitalism?

Even if I agreed with you on capitalism (which I’m closer than you think but I think you oversimplify things) LLMs and AI are not inherently investments. The business around them is the problem today.

@juergen_hubert "The investors have moved to the next scam".

Well, by this logic, there is no ethical existence in our current society.

@atomicker would be nice but it would require a federal gov willing to tolerate the tantrums that Alberta is already throwing anyway. Or it would require Alberta’s to elect something other than the oil industry as a government.

But maybe I’m to cynical. There is oil and gas extraction in other provinces as well.

@TechConnectify Well that was a delightful and rambling rant.

FWIW...literally the ONLY thing better about the trains around Toronto than the trains here in the Netherlands is the closing door chime. The Dutch NS single beep is so boring.

I was so glad (legitimately, and not sarcastically like most of my neighbours) when Waterloo region adopted it for their trains and I got to listen to it all day long at my previous house.

@Techaltar Don't bring reMarkable into this. 😆 .... 🤣 .... 😢

Yeah, that's crazy, but well deserved. I imagine the same is probably true in Canada.

Tends to happen when a super power threatens you militarily.

The crazy thing is, so many Americans are still surprised and confused that Canadians are angry. Can you imagine the response if someone treated Americans the same way.

@dalias @shadows @Daojoan just because you can sell it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist because you created something vs own it.

@shadows @Daojoan like I think most “capitalist” you know, CEOs, board members, Silicon Valley bros, etc are interested in power. But I think average people doing the “passive income” thing are mostly interested in stability.

@shadows @Daojoan I tend to agree. But given that we live in capitalism I think it’s worth understanding the underlying motivations.

@Daojoan I think most people are seduced by "passive income" not as in they don't want to contribute, but instead as a form of security. If income is passive, then you cannot be fired.

It of course isn't true, but I suspect this is the underlying motivation for most.

Or well, it would be for me, maybe I'm weird, but I do think I'm still pretty human.

@alatiera I know nothing of this person, or the issues at play. But like 99% of the time I end up on the right side of things when I side against the person whining about freedom and for the people objecting to racism and transphobia. Sooooo....
