@octothorpe@mastodon.online The laws don’t explicitly cover knifing, clubbing or chainsawing but likely indirectly include them under ‘defense’. As much as I don’t think they’re a good idea AT ALL, they aren’t the ‘free pass to violence’ they are framed as. The ‘defender’ still has to be able to prove cause to have perceived a legit threat. The laws & process protecting police are MUCH more broad.
Basically they’re an explicit removal of a ‘duty to retreat’ which, for example, in MA we have outside the home.

Big companies are better for the safe handling of your data than you could ever be because they have the expertise and resources.
This is true….ish.
Big companies bring issues you don’t have:
1) They want your data for reasons antithetical to your interests. (Training their LLMs, selling your data, using it to market to you etc.)
2) They’re a juicy target for malicious actors and (is this an ‘and’ or a ‘such as’ really?) governments in a way you’re probably not.
