If anyone has ever wondered whether you can see the implants in my hands, the ones in the 'knife edge' of my hand yes. The ones in between the index/thumb webbing no. BTW, if you're unfamiliar with TIA (Total Information Awareness), what Pantir and ICE are basically trying to do, is John Poindexter's wet dream. He just didn't have the technology in the 90s.
I highly recommend The Pentagon's Brain: An Uncensored History of DARPA by Annie Jacobsen if this interests you. TIA is covered, along with much much more. The titular 'brain' was John von Neumann, but it's not a book specifically about him. For that I recommend The Man From The Future by Ananyo Bhattacharya.

The enormous elephant in the room regarding the increasing demands on our electricity grid is simply this: we don't actually _need_ AI. It's not in any way a public need for public good. It's a private and public want. If you turned off every major GAI tomorrow nothing would demonstrably change except for our power consumption would go down and nvidia's stock would crash.
Addendum: I am talking here about the slop machines, which are the drivers of this overconsumption. I fully recognize that generative systems are being used for legitimate purposes and research, I literally help run one of them.
