I dropped out, largely. Left the city, moved to a farm: homesteading, hunting, gathering, building, deconstructing.

Now I'm trying to help move dominant culture away from self-destruction again (while continuing to feed myself from the land).

Mostly focused on climate change. of course, Climate touches everything, so I'm interested in behavioural science, communication, democracy, political science, moral philosophy, science science (hehe).. Also off-grid, ebikes, and ufos/"aliens".

so, one of the objections to the concern that AI would take over the world is often that AI can't do mining or run electrical wires or whatever. Well, that may be true for a minute. But really, only for another minute.
China just demonstrated their insane robotics superiority.
they're kungfu masters today. If they can't run a wire yet, it'll be only a moment.
When do we pull the fire alarm on all the things?

ICYMI: Obama said aliens are real. Trump said 'that's classified, you could get in trouble'. Then he said, 'I'm telling the war-master to release the alien files.' And now the war-master guy is saying, 'yep, we're on it'.

@WaitingForTheSign@mstdn.ca @edwiebe@mstdn.ca
Etymonline gives:
cognitive(adv.)

1580s, "pertaining to cognition," with -ive + Latin cognit-, past participle stem of cognoscere "to get to know, recognize," from assimilated form of com "together" (see co-) + gnoscere "to know" (from PIE root *gno- "to know").

Free PSA:
in case you missed it... AI is getting scary-good at doing cognitive work. if you haven't wrestled with the implications yet... Start wrestling.
For myself - -I think we're going to need a lot more socialism. If the owners gain all this productivity and people keep only getting paid for 'work', then we'll have a big problem (on top of our other big problems).
good news: socialism is kinda awesome, and is what all people want until they get broken/jaded.

Wealthy international right-wing conservatives/libertarians are using wedge issues in small towns!

Corporations are worried about our power and our trajectory of continuing to try to make the world a better place -- they know where it leads.

If the system was truly rigged for the rich, why would they bother? Or to put it another way, funding the narrative in society is how the game is rigged -- and this is evidence that we live in a very democratic society.

I thought @avilewis@mstdn.ca 's public option grocery stores were a risky bet -- I didn't think they could be anything but a money pit.

But, I read an article by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatiives and watched a youtube from America, and I've come around to: stoked to try!

America runs public grocery stores -- food is cheaper! (small subsidy supports less food deserts)

they say if its online, and it's free, you're the product... perhaps you have free email service? Consider how important email is in your life... and now consider switching to proton to keep you life from being monetized by google or some other yahoo.
Proton is great -- and they have a free tier. They have google-suite-like services.

As tension escalates between US/Canada (as well as separatists within canada) -- one big weakness we face is social media disinformation, owned by americans, used by canadians (all too often.

where's the elbows up re: billionaire social media and US disinformation?

Brazilian ufo case witnesses visit us congressional representatives, including a working neurosurgeon who saw and interacted with a live alien... Also a great documentary recently revised with new evidence.
